CM Punk returns to MMA commentary at Cage Fury Fighting Championships show

On Friday night, CM Punk made his first televised appearance since being fired by AEW.

Punk was back in his role as a commentator for mixed martial arts promotion Cage Fury Fighting Championships. CFFC 125 took place from North Dakota and aired live on UFC Fight Pass.

Punk’s broadcast partner John Morgan made a reference to Punk’s AEW firing, joking that he ran into Punk backstage and Punk was back “with cause.” AEW announced on September 2 that Punk had been terminated with cause following a backstage incident that took place at All In.

Punk said on the broadcast that he has time on his hands for the next two months, a possible reference to a non-compete clause after being let go by AEW.

ESPN recently asked WWE president Nick Khan if WWE would be interested in Punk (Phil Brooks) making a return to the company.

“Listen, we only have respect for Phil,” Khan responded. “We appreciate his run here. We appreciate what he did and tried to do with the UFC. Not many people can actually get in there and do what he did. So, when we have respect for Phil, we wish him nothing but the best.”

WWE Survivor Series is being held in Punk’s hometown of Chicago on Saturday, November 25.
