WWE NXT video highlights: Carmelo Hayes wins North American title

Carmelo Hayes didn’t miss when cashing in his title shot contract.

Using the title shot that he got from winning the Breakout Tournament, Hayes defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott to win the North American Championship on last night’s NXT. Hayes initially helped Scott retain the title against Santos Escobar but then turned against him and cashed in the contract.

There was a storyline on last night’s NXT where Scott didn’t have the rest of Hit Row with him for his title defense against Escobar. Top Dolla and B-Fab were kidnapped by Legado del Fantasma in the parking lot before the show, and no one had heard from Ashante “Thee” Adonis. But when Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde tried to interfere in Scott vs. Escobar, Hayes and Trick Williams fought them off.

Hayes raised Scott’s hand after Scott retained the North American title against Escobar. But Hayes then dropped Scott with a clothesline and handed his title shot contract to the referee. Scott attempted to fight back against Hayes, but Hayes got the win after hitting an axe kick from the top rope.

Last night’s matches were Scott’s first title defenses since winning the NXT North American Championship from Bronson Reed this June. Scott and the rest of Hit Row were recently called up to SmackDown in the WWE Draft.
