WWE NXT planning to introduce new championship

A new championship could soon be coming to NXT.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that as of right now WWE is planning to introduce NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.

The WWE Women’s Tag Team titles can currently be defended on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. On this week’s NXT episode, Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler retained their titles against Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez following interference by WWE authority figure Adam Pearce. After there was a ref bump during the match, Pearce brought out a Raw referee. Despite Kai not being the legal person, the Raw referee called for the bell when she passed out in Baszler’s Kirifuda Clutch.

There was a segment where Pearce and NXT general manager William Regal were shown exchanging words after Pearce got involved in the Women’s Tag Team title match. Regal was interviewed later in the show and said he’ll be making an announcement that will “change the landscape of NXT” next week.

Baszler & Jax vs. Kai & Gonzalez was just the third Women’s Tag Team title match that’s taken place on NXT since the championship was first introduced in 2019. Kai & Gonzalez got their title shot by winning the inaugural women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
