WWE NXT live results: Bronson Reed vs. Adam Cole

Due to a scheduling conflict with the Olympics, NXT moves to Syfy for two weeks starting with tonight’s episode.

A match between Bronson Reed and Adam Cole will headline tonight’s show. Plus, Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher will face off with Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan in tag team action.

The first round of the NXT Breakout Tournament will also continue with Carmelo Hayes facing Josh Briggs tonight. Duke Hudson and Odyssey Jones have already advanced to the next round of the tournament. The final first round match will be Trey Baxter vs. Joe Gacy.

Hit Row will be in action as Top Dolla & Ashante “Thee” Adonis face Imperium’s Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner, Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter will take on Franky Monet & Jessi Kamea, and LA Knight will go golfing with his butler/caddy Cameron Grimes.

Segments with Samoa Joe and NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez have also been announced for tonight. Joe will address last week’s show-closing angle, where it was revealed that general manager William Regal had been laid out by NXT Champion Karrion Kross. Gonzalez will address the women’s division.

The show opened with a canned intro recapping the feud brewing between NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Samoa Joe. Kross waylayed General Manager William Regal in a cliffhanger that ended the previous episode of NXT.

This week a tag team match kicks off the show, and it ought to be fantastic. Settle in for a symphony of violence.

Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan defeated Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher

Dunne pinned Ciampa to win the match. Ridge Holland interefered to help Dunne & Lorcan win the match. The trio then beat down Thatcher & Ciampa after the match.

Ciampa against Dunne appears to be a clear direction. Their beef was a focus of the tag match.

Early on was a battle of attrition between the two sides. Great stuff between Thatcher and Dunne. Ciampa and Dunne stayed apart early on, but they glared holes through each other. Dunne soon tagged in to square off with Ciampa, and business picked up.

The match went through a picture-in-picture commercial break. Ciampa & Thatcher stood tall as the show went to the break. By then the fight had spilled outside the ring. Dunne & Lorcan fought back during the break. They were double teaming Thatcher when the show came back to full picture.

Hot tag to Ciampa, and he cleaned house. Ciampa ran wild with series of lariats. Soon Ciampa was targeting Dunne’s arm. Loracn tried to make a save, but he was grabbed in an ankle lock by Thatcher. Loracn was pulled out of the ring by his ankle.

Ridge Holland suddenly appeared making a return to NXT. Holland attacked Thatcher with a lariat, laying him out at ringside. Lorcan was then free to jump in the ring, breaking up a submission hold Ciampa was applying on Dunne. Ciampa kicked Lorcan out of the ring. That allowed Dunne time to recover. Dunne executed a Bitter End, and he covered Ciampa for a pinfall.

Holland got in to the ring after the matc, and he jumped Thatcher. Loracn & Dunne made Ciampa watch while Holland assaulted Thatcher. The heels then laid out Ciampa. Holland, Dunne & Lorcan stood over Thatcher & Ciampa to admire their despicable act.

A vignette hyped Carmelo Hayes. Tonight he has a first round in the Breakout Tournament.

Hit Row in a promo spoke Spanish in running down Legado del Fantasma. This act is a sure fire hit.

Samoa Joe vs. Karrion Kross signed for TakeOver

Samoa Joe is on his way to the ring and he looks to be in a rage. He pulled a table from underneath along with a chair. He set up the table and chair in the ring. Joe invited Regal to the ring. Regal sternly walks down the ramp and gets in the ring to

Joe says Regal is going to fire Karrion Kross, but Joe has a much better idea. It is a three-step process. First, Joe handed Regal a resignation letter, leaving his current role. Joe had another document for step two. Regal signing it would make Joe a part of the active roster in NXT. The crowd erupts in chants for Joe.

Regal does not say a word. He instead leans over to sign the deal. Joe reminds everyone this is a three-step process. The third step is a contract for a title match at TakeOver 36 with Samoa Joe challenging Karrion Kross. Regal signs, and it’s official for TakeOver — Joe vs. Kross. Tremendous segment. Best contract signing segment on WWE television in ages.

LA Knight was at the golf course with Cameron Grines in tow as Knight’s caddy. There was a crude joke about balls. Grimes was a distraction to Knight, causing him to shank a ball in the woods. Knigth was super annoyed. Grimes was happy as heck. To be continued…

Carmelo Hayes defeated Josh Briggs to advance in the Breakout Tournament

Hayes pinned Briggs in this first round match. Hayes next faces Duke Hudson in the tournament semifinal. Hudson joined the announce team for guest commentary during this first round bout.

Cat-and-mouse game at the outset. Briggs with the power advantage, but Hayes showed heart. Brigss worked over Hayes as the match went through a commercial break.

Comeback by Hayes after the show returned from the break. Codebreaker by Hayes for a close near fall. Briggs ate a kick, but he answered back with a big boot that turned Hayes inside out. Briggs then guzzled for a high chokeslam. Hayes somehow managed to kick out at two.

Hayes with a tilt-a-whirl counter escaped the clutches of Briggs. Hayes then leapt off the top rope with a slicing legdrop on Briggs, and Hayes covered Briggs for a three count.

Million dollar pep talk

Ted DiBiase showed up at the golf course to give Cameron Grimes a pep talk. LA Knight hit a ball into a pond, thanks to Grimes distracting him. Knight then ordered Grimes to retrieve his golf ball from the pond. Grimes took off and waded into the water, saying he was a man of his word. Knight left as Grimes looked for his ball.

Grimes found the ball as DiBiase drove up on a golf cart. DiBiase told Grimes he was better than this, and Grimes responded that he was a man of his word. Grimes reckoned Ted would be be more upset at him if he didn’t live up to his word.

DiBiase told Grimes that Grimes wasn’t born to be a butler. “You were born to be a champion,” DiBiase said. DiBiase told Grimes to not lose his pride, and he urged him to fight for what he believes in. DiBiase told him think on it.

Dakota Kai turns on Raquel Gonzalez

NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez addressed the audience, hyping herself up in a good in-ring promo. She wondered out loud who was next to challenge her.

Dakota Kai said her best friend, “Big Mommy Cool,” is the “most dominate women in NXT history.” Kai put over Gonzalez as being better than Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Asuka, and others before her.

Kai wondered out loud why the NXT women’s division in one of the greatest. It is because of one woman. Kai looked towards the entracne ramp as she asked who is woman enough to challenge Gonzalez for the championship at TakeOver. No one answered the call.

Kai said that as long as she in the corner of Gonzalez, then Gonzalez would always be champion. Kai raised the hand of Gonzalez, and theme music played to seemingly signal the end of the segment. Not so fast. There is more.

Gonzalez turned in just in time to see Kai charing at her with a running kick. Gonzalez fell to the mat, and Kai grabbed the championship belt. Looks like the title match for TakeOver is taking shape.

Adam Cole. cut a promo on Bronson Reed ahead of their match later on.

Io Shirai is training alone at the Performance Center. Zoey Stark approached Shirai to say they should train together, as they are after all the NXT Tag Team Champions. Shirai say so because she does not like her. Stark insists they should create a relationship. Friends? No thanks, said Shirai. Stark says not friends, but partners. Stark invited Shirai to hang out. Shirai reluctantly agreed.

Mandy Rose was seen hudled backstage with Gigi Dollan and Jacy Jayne. Rose shooed away a camera operator.

Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter defeated Franky Monet & Jessi Kamea (with Robert Stone)

Catanzaro pinned Monet after interference by Stone backfired.

Cool double team moves by Catanzaro & Carter. Monet & Kamea briefly got heat, but the babyface team would soon rally. Monet was working over Carter when Stone got onto the apron. Stone threw his handbag into the ring. He wanted Monet to use the handbag to hit Carter. That backfired as it only distracted Monet. She turned around to eat a kick from Carter. Catanzaro & Carter execute their double team neckbreaker/450 combo, and Catanzaro pinned Monet.

Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter defeated Franky Monet & Jessi Kamea (with Robert Stone)

Catanzaro pinned Monet after interference by Stone backfired.

Roderick Strong was joined by Malcolm Bivens for a sit-down interview with Wade Barrett. Strong put over BIvens, with Strong saying he could not break through the drama with Undisputed Era until he called on Bivens. Great stuff here. Bivens put over Strong as a leader, and Bivens talked about them getting money. They both addressed Bobby Fish, and Strong warned Fish that he will finish him.

Imperium (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel) defeated Hit Row (Top Dolla & Ashante “Thee” Adonis)

Barthel pinned Adonis after a run-in by Legado del Fantasma.

Imperium was getting the better of Adonis the fist half of the match, but Adonis created separation to tag Top Dolla. He mowed down Imperium. The two team go on to trade near falls before a commercial break. Hit Row looked strong as the show cut to commercial.

Imperium were regaining control as the show returned from the break. Heat on Adonis. Match was plodding at times, until a hot tag brought in Top Dolla. He cleaned house on Imperium. Adonis tagged back in. Cue Legedo del Fantasma for a run-in.

NXT North American Champion Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and B-Fab were the corner of Hit Row. Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde attacked Scott ringside, which got the attention of Top Dolla. The distraction allowed Imperium to deliver a super uppercut into a Doomsday powerbomb. Barthel then covered Adonis for a pinfall.

The final installment of the golf course skits with LA Knight and Cameron Grimes was something else indeed. Grizzled Young Veterans were also playing golf. They wanted to play through, complaining that Knight was playing too slow. Grimes took up for Knight, and a bet was made for $20,000 to whoever could sink the ball into the hole.

Knight has his back turned when Grimes went to swing his golf club, and Knight is hit in the balls and the head by Grimes swinging the club. Grimes then proceeded to get a hole in one, sinking the ball into the cup.

Grizzled Young Veterans flee on a golf cart before they can pay up on the bet. Meanwhile, Knight is getting to his feet. He thinks the Grizzled Young Veterans jumped him. Knight throws his club at the fleeing cart, and Knight gives chase on foot.

Grimes remarks that he loves golf as the Looney Tunes segment comes to a close. This would seem to set up a tag team match, but nothing of the sort was announced for next week. However, three other matches are set for next Tuesday’s show.

Adam Cole defeated Bronson Reed

Cole pinned Reed clean to win. Kyle O’Reilly attacked Cole after the match.

They played up the size difference in the first half of the match. Reed demonstrated power moves, and he squished Cole. Countering a superplex, Cole targeted a knee. Cole kicked Reed in the knee to knock Reed off the ropes before the show cut its final commercial break.

Cole worked over Reed’s leg. Trash talk by Cole fired up Reed. Cole gets squished in a corner, and Reed followed with a belly bump. Reed gets a near fall. Cole countered Reed to deliver an enzuigiri, but Reed came back with a counter of his own that led to him dropping Cole into a Death Valley Driver. Another near fall for Reed.

Cole with two count on Reed after a running kick. Cole was throwing superkicks when Reed caught Cole’s foot. Reed hulked up to chop Cole, but Cole kicked him in the injured leg. Cole with a Panama Sunrise, but Reed managed to kick out at two-and-three quarters.

Cole pulled down his knee pad, signalling for the Last Shot. Instead, Cole ate a lariat from Reed, and then Cole took a powerbomb. Reed climbed the ropes setting up for the Tsunami. No water in the pool, and Reed missed the splash. Cole delivered The Last Shot, and Cole covered Reed. One…two…three. Cole wins.

Kyle O’Reilly ran down to attack Cole after the match. O’Reilly hit Cole with a chair, and O’Reilly choked Cole with the chair. O’Reilly picked up Cole to deliver a brainbuster on the ring steps. Cole is down selling while O’Reilly stood over him, and the show faded to black.
