Trick Williams vs. Carmelo Hayes to main event WWE NXT Stand & Deliver
Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes are officially set to headline NXT’s WrestleMania weekend special.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Shawn Michaels confirmed that the grudge match between Hayes and Williams will go on last at Stand & Deliver. The show is taking place from Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, April 6. It has a noon Eastern start time, airing live on Peacock prior to WrestleMania 40 night one.
“The Trick Williams-Carmelo Hayes story has been a driving force of NXT over the past several months,” Michaels told Sports Illustrated. “It deserves to be the main event of what is sure to be a memorable NXT Stand and Deliver.”
The friendship between Williams and Hayes imploded when Hayes attacked Williams at NXT Vengeance Day last month. It was later revealed that Hayes was also the previously unidentified person who attacked Williams backstage last October.
The story is that Hayes got jealous of Williams and decided to betray him after Williams went after the NXT Championship.
Ilja Dragunov holds the NXT Championship and is defending the title against Tony D’Angelo at Stand & Deliver.
On NXT this week, a Prime Target vignette aired building up the Williams vs. Hayes Stand & Deliver match. It included comments from CM Punk, Randy Orton, Booker T, Cody Rhodes, Johnny Gargano, and Tommaso Ciampa.
