Lexis King wins NXT Heritage Cup trophy

A new Heritage Cup champion has been crowned.

Lexis King defeated Charlie Dempsey by disqualification to win the Heritage Cup for the first time. The finish had William Regal at ringside handing Lexis King the brass knuckles. King refused to use them. Regal responded by striking King, with the knuckles falling out of his hand. After Dempsey picked them up, the referee saw Dempsey with the weapon and disqualified him. As per the rules, King won the trophy as a result.

Prior to the match, Regal asked King backstage if he was ready. King said this was the best version of himself and was ready to win the trophy. As King walked away, Regal said that wasn’t what he was asking, revealing the brass knuckles.

King has undergone soul-searching in recent months, seeking to prove that he isn’t a loose cannon like his father, Brian Pillman. On the October 29 edition of NXT, Dempsey defeated King to retain the trophy. He would later agree to a rematch as long as King underwent a workout with him, which took place on last week’s show.
