JD McDonagh appears at NXT Great American Bash, attacks Bron Breakker

JD McDonagh made his return to NXT tonight, attacking Bron Breakker at the end of the show.

After Breakker had retained the NXT Championship at Great American Bash tonight, Breakker was walking to the back, holding up the title. It was then that McDonagh attacked Breakker from behind, laying him out with a side slam into a nearby table that was filled with food. McDongah told McDonagh that he was the ‘necessary evil’ in NXT as the show closed.

Vignettes for McDonagh, the former Jordan Devlin, had been airing on NXT in recent weeks. On tonight’s show another vignette aired with McDonagh saying that next week, everything about NXT would change.

McDonagh signed with the WWE in 2017, participating in the United Kingdom Championship Tournament, making it to the quarterfinals. Since then, he was primarily wrestled for the NXT UK brand. At Worlds Collide in 2020, he defeated Angel Garza to win the NXT Crusierweight Championship. However, he was unable to defend it in the United States due to COVID-19 restrictions until the following year, where he lost the title to Santos Escobar on the second night of NXT Takeover Stand & Deliver.

Back in May, McDonagh was written out of NXT UK after losing a NXT UK Championship match to Ilja Dragunov.
