The second-ever NXT Fight Pit match will take place at New Year’s Evil.

On tonight’s episode of NXT, WWE announced that Tommaso Ciampa will face Timothy Thatcher in a Fight Pit match at New Year’s Evil. Thatcher was also involved in the first Fight Pit match, defeating Matt Riddle this May. Kurt Angle was the special guest referee for Thatcher vs. Riddle.

Ciampa defeated Thatcher in their match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames earlier this month. Thatcher cut a promo on tonight’s show and said he did the courtesy of asking Ciampa for another fight, but Ciampa walked away from him and showed him no respect. Thatcher said he was going to take liberties against Leon Ruff later in the episode. Thatcher said that if Ciampa is the man he says he is, he’ll come and fight Thatcher.

Ruff got a surprise win by pinning Thatcher with a cradle as Thatcher was going for a submission. Thatcher beat down Ruff after the match, but Ciampa ran out to make the save. Ciampa laid out Thatcher with the Willow’s Bell DDT and then told Thatcher that — if he wants a fight — Ciampa will see him in the Fight Pit.

New Year’s Evil is the first NXT episode of 2021. It’s taking place on Wednesday, January 6.

Here’s the updated New Year’s Evil lineup:

  • NXT Champion Finn Balor defends against Kyle O’Reilly
  • Karrion Kross vs. Damian Priest
