Ethan Page says AEW ‘didn’t know what they had’ in him

During a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Ethan Page discussed his time in NXT and departure from All Elite Wrestling.
Page was removed from the AEW roster page in early May 2024 and debuted in NXT later that month, attacking Trick Williams and starting a program that would lead to him becoming NXT Champion. He’s continued to play a pivotal role on the brand since.
After NXT last night, Page spoke with Bully Ray on Busted Open After Dark and said that AEW didn’t know what they had in him.
“They didn’t know what they had, and now they do. I’m gone. These guys have me. They have the ability to do whatever it is that they want, and they have chosen to open a door for Ethan Page to absolutely kick wide open,” Page said.
Page also said he can relate to Penta, who recently left AEW and made his WWE debut on Raw this week.
Page continued:
“I can relate to Penta, especially family-wise, getting to see him on Raw with his family in the front row, his daughter specifically in tears. It was almost a flashback to me winning the championship in my home country of Canada in Toronto, my daughter in the front row, finally getting to see her dad fulfill his dream of being a champion, the champion in the company he’s always wanted to be in. So yeah, I can only imagine how Penta felt last night, debuting WWE, Monday Night Raw, Netflix, who knows how many millions of people were watching? It had to feel good.”
Shortly after his departure from AEW last year, Page described his experience in the company as “chaotic and unorganized” compared to NXT.
Also during his appearance on Busted Open, Bully asked Page about his segment at New Year’s Evil with The Rock last week.
Page responded:
“I did not expect Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to interrupt me. But on top of it, if a superstar of that caliber could pick anybody on the NXT roster to brush shoulders with, to get to know, to get to be in the presence of and understand what they bring to the table, if I’m the Final Boss, I’m gonna see what’s up. So yeah, there’s part of me that was shocked. But the other part after the fact, no, he’s a very strategic man and that was a very good move by the Final Boss.”
