Double champion crowned at NXT Great American Bash

Keith Lee has ended Adam Cole’s year-plus long title reign and is now a double champion.

In a match where both of their titles were on the line, Lee defeated Cole in the main event of Great American Bash night two to win the NXT Championship and retain the NXT North American Championship. This is the first time Lee has held the NXT Championship. He’s been North American Champion since defeating Roderick Strong for the title in January.

The finishing sequence saw Cole hit his second Last Shot of the match. But instead of going for the pin, he climbed the ropes and went for the Panama Sunrise. Lee countered and hit a Spirit Bomb on Cole. He then hit the Big Bang Catastrophe to win the winner-take-all match.

Lee celebrated in the ring to close the show. It was shown that Karrion Kross and Scarlett were watching on during the celebration.

It was noted on commentary that Lee is the first person in NXT history to hold two singles titles at the same time.

Cole had been NXT Champion since winning the title from Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: XXV in June 2019.

The result of Cole vs. Lee had been spoiled by a now-deleted photo of Lee celebrating in the ring that was posted on Instagram by NXT’s Saurav when the match was taped last week.
