Two A Block wrestlers advance to NJPW G1 Climax 33 quarterfinals

Two wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals of NJPW’s G1 Climax 33 tournament on the final night of A Block matches.
SANADA claimed first place in A Block and finished an undefeated 7-0 in Block matches with a win over Chase Owens on Saturday, securing his place in the quarterfinals on Thursday, August 10. In Saturday’s main event, Hikuleo defeated Shota Umino to secure second place in A Block and the second quarterfinals spot from A Block.
Umino, Hikuleo, Gabe Kidd, Yota Tsuji, and Kaito Kiyomiya all remained mathematically alive heading into Saturday’s show. After Kiyomiya’s loss on Saturday to Ren Narita and Kidd’s Saturday loss to Tsuji, only Tsuji, Hikuleo and Umino remained alive heading into the Umino vs. Hikuleo bout. Hikuleo’s outright win negated any potential ties or tiebreak scenarios.
SANADA now awaits the second place finisher in C Block, while Hikuleo will take on the first place finisher from D Block in Thursday’s quarterfinal round.
