Summer Struggle in Jingu stadium event announced by NJPW

New Japan Pro Wrestling will return to Jingu Stadium next month for the Summer Struggle in Jingu event.

The company made the announcement at this morning’s Sengoku Lord show prior to intermission. The outdoor stadium, located in Tokyo, holds up to 37,933 people, though the number of people attending will be smaller due to social distancing.

This will be the second time the promotion has held an event at the stadium. The last show, Battle of Last Summer, was held on August 28, 1999. In the main event, The Great Muta defeated The Great Nita (Atsushi Onita in a gimmick similar to Muta’s) in what was described as a no rope explosive barbed wire barricade explosive landmine double hell deathmatch. Muta ended up emerging as the winner.

After this morning’s card, NJPW will start the Summer Struggle tour on July 26 at Korakuen Hall, running through August 16 in Shizuoka.
