NJPW’s Chris Charlton on ‘indefinite hiatus’ after anti-AEW commentary at Wrestle Dynasty

NJPW commentator Chris Charlton raised some eyebrows during Saturday’s Wrestle Dynasty event due to some inflammatory comments he made about both AEW talent and Tony Khan.

Those comments have now put him on an “indefinite hiatus” from NJPW, according to our Dave Meltzer. Charlton was noticeably absent from commentary at this morning’s New Year’s Dash event.

AEW contributed talent like Omega, the Young Bucks, Brody King and Konosuke Takeshita for the Wrestle Dynasty event which was similar to their annual Forbidden Door show.

Charlton referred to Khan as a “money mark” during Kenny Omega and Gabe Kidd’s co-main event match in an apparent attempt to add some fuel for an AEW vs. NJPW angle. Among other comments, he also questioned what Kazuchika Okada, Jay White and Will Ospreay have done since signing with AEW and unfavorably compared the Continental Classic to the G1 tournament.

The 41-year-old Charlton shared a picture of himself with Omega after that match, but later deleted another tweet where he attempted to explain himself. As of now, he has not commented publicly on this latest development.
