NJPW cancels events through May 4, Wrestling Dontaku included

NJPW has canceled their events through May 4, including both Wrestling Dontaku events.
“In response to the continuing Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, and in light of state of emergency measures across Japan announced on April 7, New Japan Pro-Wrestling has arrived at the decision to cancel all events that were scheduled up to and including Wrestling Dontaku 2020 on May 3 & 4” the company wrote on their English language website.
The statement also said that NJPW is exploring the possibility of presenting matches without fans in attendance. However, that would only happen if “staff and wrestler health and safety can be protected to the highest possible standard.”
NJPW has not ran a show since February 26, a New Japan Road event in Okinawa. They have previously canceled their events for the entire month of March and a portion of April, including the entire New Japan Cup tournament and the Sakura Genesis event that was scheduled for March 31.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday announced a month-long state of emergency for Tokyo and six other prefectures as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
