  • Ian Carey

G1 Climax 34 continued on Monday with the last night of A Block round-robin action in Nagaoka.

Zack Sabre Jr. went into today’s show having already clinched the top spot in the group. He receives a bye to the tournament semifinals. He beat SANADA on today’s show to finish the round-robin with 14 points and a 7-2 record.

Shingo Takagi and Great-O-Khan are the other two wrestlers to advance out of the group. They will meet in a quarterfinal match on Thursday. They finished tied with EVIL and Tetsuya Naito with 5-4 records and 10 points. The tie-breaker in that scenario is the head-to-head records of all tied competitors. Takagi advances out of the group as the second seed due to his 3-0 round-robin record against the other tied wrestlers. He beat Naito, EVIL, and O-Khan in the round-robin. O-Khan advances as a result of his 2-1 round-robin record over the other tied wrestlers. He had round-robin wins over Naito and EVIL.

G1 Climax 34 night 15 results:

Other notes from today’s show:

  • Gabe Kidd attacked Callum Newman after their match. Kidd gave him a piledriver on a steel chair and Newman had to be helped to the back after.
  • Zack Sabre Jr. continued his good run in the tournament, beating and eliminating SANADA in the second round-robin bout of the show. ZSJ had already clinched the top spot in the group and celebrated in the crowd after the match.
  • The third tournament match had Jake Lee vs. Shingo Takagi with both wrestlers needing a win to keep their tournament hopes alive. Takagi picked up the win with a pumping bomber to increase his tally to 10 points. Lee attacked Takagi after the match as well but it was broken up pretty quickly.
  • Before the semi-main event could take place, House of Torture forced the ring announcer to read a statement saying that Umino was not there but Umino showed up moments later and the match began. Unsurprisingly, House of Torture interfered in the match. At one point, they had a five-on-one advantage on Umino with the referee down. It took a very long time, but NJPW president Hiroshi Tanahashi eventually came out to make the save. With everyone cleared from the ring, Umino hit EVIL with the Death Rider and picked up the win.
  • Heading into the main event, both IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito and Great-O-Khan needed a win to advance to the knockout round. After kicking out of a Destino, Great-O-Khan got the win with the Eliminator.
