MLW Fusion results: Taya Valkyrie vs. Trish Adora Featherweight title match

Cesar Duran opened this week’s show by coming out to announce his latest signing to Azteca Lucha in Sam Adonis.

Sam Adonis defeated Johnny Patch

Joe Dombrowski called Adonis Duran’s pillar to build his plans around and he took no time at all in winning his MLW debut match.

Adonis hit a blockbuster after walking the top rope followed by two strong lariats and a sit-down driver called the Orange Blossom Thunder Driver to pick up a quick and easy victory.

After the match, Adonis said he has spent the last five years beating everyone up in AAA. He then threatened interviewer Sam Leterna after she questioned why he had aligned himself with Duran to which he answered, “Questions are a burden for others, but answers are a prison for yourself.”

– Lio Rush will be returning to MLW soon.

– Alex Kane made some promises, saying he was going to put the new British Bulldogs out of their misery, rename the damaged Opera Cup, win Battle Riot V, and beat Alexander Hammerstone for the MLW title. In retaliation, Davey Boy Smith then told the MLW cameras that he is going to hurt Kane for all the pain and damage he has inflicted on both the Cup and his family.

YAMATO defeated Shun Skywalker to win the Open the Dream Gate Championship (August 2021)

Out of the blue and with no hype or advertising, we were treated to a 2021 match from Dragon Gate that saw YAMATO winning the Open the Dream Gate Championship from former MLW Middleweight champion Skywalker.

Randomness aside, this was an excellent match. Skywalker hit a brainbuster on the ramp in the opening minutes but Yamato fought his way back into the match with an overhead belly-to-belly that sent Skywalker tumbling down the ramp back towards the ring.

This was your typical Dragon Gate match and the high impact moves did not stop as Skywalker hit his spin-out sit-out powerbomb – the SSW – on the ring apron and YAMATO came off the top rope with a strong missile dropkick.

The back-and-forth reversals continued in the ring until Skywalker hit a trifecta of moonsaults, the third culminating in a top rope version that got a close near fall. They shared Michinoku drivers before trading even more high impact moves: German suplex, a uranage, sit-out powerbombs, and even another SSW that YAMATO kicked out of at the last second.

After a gruelling final exchange, YAMATO hit his Galleria Michinoku driver and a Curtain Call reverse DDT to pick up the win and the title.

– Richard Holliday gave us an update on his health and wrestling career as he has been fighting Hodgkins lymphoma since September 2022. But, he has been working out and baffling the doctors at how well he has responded to chemotherapy. He misses wrestling and reiterated this was not a goodbye, but a see you soon.

– Adonis and Duran walked past Microman backstage before Adonis dumped a trash can on top of the mini superstar. Lince Dorado ran in to save his friend but yet again, Duran tried to tempt the new Middleweight champion to his Azteca Lucha brand instead.

– The Samoan Swat Team were hyping themselves up and saying they will all soon be dripping in gold.

MLW Featherweight champion Taya Valkyrie (w/ Cesar Duran) defeated Trish Adora to retain the title

Adora became the top contender after beating Gia Scott last week, but the main talking point in the featherweight division has been Valkyrie turning her back on the fans and aligning with her old Lucha Underground comrade in Duran.

Valkyrie has shown a more vicious side now that she is with Duran, showing that with a curb stomp to the back of Adora’s head. But the challenger still had fight left in her with a German suplex, a spinning backbreaker and a fisherman’s suplex.

Valkyrie seemed like she was barely hanging onto her title and it took Duran tripping Adora’s heels behind the referee’s back for Valkyrie to fall on top of the challenger and pick up the cheap title defense.
