Four participants have been added to the field for this year’s MLW Battle Riot match.
MLW announced today that King Muertes (formerly known as Mil Muertes), Caribbean Champion Richard Holliday, Zenshi, and Lee Moriarty will be taking part in the Battle Riot. The match is taking place at MLW’s television tapings at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 10.
Moriarty is making his MLW debut at the tapings.
The four wrestlers join MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Hammerstone as the first participants announced for the Battle Riot.
The Battle Riot is a 40-man battle royal where two wrestlers start the match and then a new participant is added every 60 seconds. There are no disqualifications, and eliminations can occur by pinfall, submission, or being thrown over the top rope. The winner of the Battle Riot will receive an MLW World Heavyweight Championship shot whenever they want it.
Jacob Fatu is the current MLW World Heavyweight Champion. In storyline, Fatu’s Contra Unit stablemate Josef Samael controls the challenges to Fatu’s title and has denied Hammerstone a title shot. The Battle Riot is Hammerstone’s only path to a title match.
This will be the third Battle Riot match that MLW has presented. Tom Lawlor won the first Battle Riot in 2018 and LA Park won the second Battle Riot in 2019.
The July 10 tapings in Philadelphia are the start of a new season for MLW. It will be the first MLW event with fans in attendance since March 2020.
