Alex Kane wins vacant MLW National Openweight title

The vacant MLW National Openweight Championship has found a new home as Alex Kane won a five-way ladder match on Thursday’s Thanksgiving edition of Fusion to capture the title.

The finish saw Zenshi and Myron Reed trading strikes at the top of a ladder before Zenshi took Reed out with a headscissors. When Alex Shelley went to capitalize on the opportunity, Kane put him in a sleeper and sent him back out of the ring. Kane then climbed the ladder and grabbed the title.

Kane, 28, signed with the promotion back in May when he was introduced during the company’s Open Draft. He has been wrestling on the independent scene for nearly three years, appearing for Paradigm Pro, ACTION Wrestling, and New South Pro Wrestling. He joins Alexander Hammerstone as the only other man to hold the title.

The title was vacated by Hammerstone after this fall’s title vs. title clash between himself and then-World Champion Jacob Fatu. After he beat Fatu to claim both titles, Hammerstone vacated the Openweight belt on the October 13th Fusion: Alpha so another wrestler could have the opportunity he once had.
