After becoming a double champion in MLW, Alex Hammerstone voluntarily relinquished one of his titles.

This week’s episode of MLW Fusion: Alpha featured a segment where Hammerstone announced that he was relinquishing the MLW National Openweight Championship. Hammerstone became MLW World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Jacob Fatu in a title vs. title match at Fightland last week.

Hammerstone told MLW authority figure Cesar Duran (formerly known as Dario Cueto in Lucha Underground) that he was relinquishing the National Openweight title because it was the right thing to do. Hammerstone said he’s always hated people who pull the ladder up once they’re finished climbing it. Hammerstone said that, with him winning the World Heavyweight Championship, the National Openweight title is now someone else’s opportunity.

Hammerstone is the only wrestler who has held the National Openweight title since it was introduced in June 2019.

Also on this week’s Fusion: Alpha, Hammerstone accepted Contra Unit’s challenge for a War Chamber match. Hammerstone, Richard Holliday, EJ Nduka, and a partner will face Contra’s Fatu, Mads Krugger, Ikuro Kwon & Josef Samael at MLW’s War Chamber tapings in Philadelphia on Saturday, November 6.
