AJPW announces 2021 Champion Carnvial tournament

All Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that the Champion Carnival tournament will run as scheduled in April.

The 2021 tournament will start on April 9 in Osaka and will run through May 3, with the finals taking place at Korakuen Hall. No participants have been announced. The schedule is as follows:

  • April 9th in Osaka
  • April 10th in Nagoya
  • April 11th in Niigata
  • April 17th in Shinkiba
  • April 18th in Chiba
  • April 24th in Shinkiba
  • April 25th in Korakuen Hall
  • April 28th in Hodogaya
  • April 29th in Korakuen Hall
  • May 3rd in Korakuen Hall

Last year’s tournament was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally scheduled for April, it was moved to September, with the finals taking place on October 5. Zeus won last year’s tournament, defeating 2019 tournament winner Kento Miyahara in the finals.

The Champion Carnival has ran every year since 1991, but started back in 1973, when Giant Baba won the first-ever tournament. He would go on to win the tournament seven times between 1973 and 1982. Other notable tournament winners include Stan Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa, Keiji Mutoh, and Minoru Suzuki.
