Newell was released by WWE in November following a four-year run marred by knee injuries. She was slated for the 2017 Mae young Classic, but tore her ACL before the tournament. Newell returned to action in time for the 2018 Mae Young Classic, then suffered a torn ACL, torn MCL, torn LCL, torn meniscus, and patellar dislocation in a tournament match against Rhea Ripley. Newell was reportedly planned to win the tournament prior to the injury. Newell appeared twice on SmackDown in 2019 as part of a Survivor Series storyline, then competed in the 2020 Royal Rumble match. She made another SmackDown appearance in 2020, before suffering another torn ACL .

Newell made her official main roster WWE debut in July 2021, appearing as Shotzi Blackheart’s tag team partner. The duo would defeat Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina three times in non-title matches on TV, but never received a title match.

The team with Shotzi was dissolved in the WWE Draft in October, as Newell was drafted to Raw on October 4, while Shotzi remained on SmackDown.

Newell never wrestled on Raw after being drafted to the brand, then was released on November 18.
