Debbie Malenko set for Women’s Invitational Cup at NWA Empower

Debbie Malenko has been added to the NWA Women’s Invitational Cup that will take place at NWA Empower.

The NWA confirmed this afternoon on social media that Malenko will be a part of the  event, which will take place on August 28 at The Chase in St. Louis, Missouri.

“We’re proud to announce, with her recent return to #prowrestling, @DebbieMalenko has entered the NWA Women’s Invitational Cup,” they wrote. “Trained by the great Boris Malenko — from AJW to MMA, battling through injury and a major return, NOBODY demonstrates what #EMPOWERRR is about more!”

Tootie Lynn, Jamie Senegal, Chelsea Green, Bianca Carelli, and Lady Frost have already been announced for the Women’s Invitational Cup. The winner will challenge the NWA Women’s Champion the next night at the NWA’s 73rd Anniversary show.

Malenko is best known for her run in All Japan Women’s wrestling from 1991 through 1993, where she held the AJW Tag Team titles and the AJW title once. She had to vacate the AJW title after suffering a knee injury that largely ended her in-ring career. However, she has made sporadic appearances in recent years, including a match against Marina Tucker at a CWF event last month.
