Joe Hendry: I believe I will wrestle John Cena before he retires

Joe Hendry

Joe Hendry asks a lot of people to believe in him and now, he has a belief on something pretty big: seeing WWE legend John Cena across the ring from him before he retires.

During an interview I did with the TNA star who has crossed over into NXT recently, we spoke about his time on the black and gold brand and having so much buzz surrounding his name right now. Toward the end of our conversation (seen in full below), I asked what more he would like to see happen to which he responded swiftly and confidently:

“I believe that I will wrestle John Cena.”

Hendry continued to explain why he wants to wrestle Cena, sharing a heartfelt story from when he was 15 years old. He had never attended a live wrestling show and there was one he wanted to attend but couldn’t. Hendry’s friend went, had a VIP ticket, and met Cena. He mentioned Hendry not being able to attend, so Cena called Hendry himself and spoke to him for several minutes.

“John Cena was the first pro wrestler I ever talked to, so for me to be one of his final matches would mean a lot,” he said.

Cena announced his impending retirement at WWE Money in the Bank and later a subsequent tour that kicks off next year will take him around the country and the world.

Hendry went on to explain that Cena’s kind gesture that one day left a profound impact on him at a young age.

“To me, that is a demonstration of how to treat your fans and how valuable a moment can be for people. I do think it had a very positive effect on me and it showed me what this business is actually all about.”

Hendry competes for the TNA World title this Saturday at Slammiversary in a six-way match.
