Impact notes: New Tag Team champions, next week’s lineup, PJ Black, Alan Angels
Impact Wrestling has new Tag Team champions as Heath & Rhino defeated The Kingdom on Thursday’s AXS show to win the gold.
The end came when Maria Kanellis got involved, blinding her husband Mike Bennett with powder accidentally. Heath took out Bennett with the Wake-Up Call before Matt Taven then briefly took him out. Rhino then gored Maria after Taven dodged it, but Taven took a Wake-Up Call of his own, giving Heath & Rhino the win.
It’s the first taste of Impact tag team gold for Heath & Rhino who have been friends and partners in a storyline since Heath arrived in Impact.
The match was taped prior to The Kingdom’s debut on AEW Rampage last Friday. The three became free agents after this TV taping.
Honor No More is likely no more
After the match, Eddie Edwards came out for the first time since his loss to World Champion Josh Alexander at Bound for Glory. He confronted all the other members of the team (Vincent, Kenny King, PCO) in addition to Bennett, Taven and Kanellis.
After asking all members for their allegiance, Edwards finished by asking PCO. After weeks of being disrespected, PCO attacked Edwards after being called a bitch and then took out all the other members.
The Kingdom and Vincent became free agents after the taping, so if Honor No More is to remain, it will look a lot different.
Next week’s lineup
After Mickie James and Taylor Wilde were jumped by VXT as the two were trying to set up a match, followed by Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace coming to their aid, a trios match was set up for next Thursday that will see Grace, Wilde and James against VXT (Deonna Purrazzo & Chelsea Green) and Gisele Shaw.
Additionally, the first two matches of the newly-announced X-Division title tournament will kick off as Black Taurus will face Laredo Kid while the returning Alan Angels will face former champion Trey Miguel.
The matches will be taped this weekend in Las Vegas.
PJ Black and Alan Angels are back
After more than seven years away, PJ Black is returning to Impact as part of the aforementioned X-Division tournament, facing Yuya Uemura in the first round.
A regular in Ring of Honor in the last few years, he was last in the promotion in 2015 for just three matches, winning and losing the King of the Mountain title on back-to-back days.
Angels returns after making his surprise debut in July, unsuccessfully challenging then-champion Bailey for the title. This will be his first Impact appearance since then.
