Impact notes: Joe Hendry wins Digital Media title, next week’s lineup

Impact Wrestling has a new Digital Media Champion as Joe Hendry defeated Brian Myers for the title on Thursday’s AXS show.

Hendry got an assist from Impact Tag Team Champions Heath & Rhino who ran Matt Cardona to the back, leaving Myers to fend for himself. Hendry countered a Roster Cut attempt, hitting the Standing Ovation to get the clean pin and win.

It’s Hendry’s first Impact title of any kind. He becomes the fifth Digital Media Champion in company history.

Trey Miguel advances

Former X-Division Champion Trey Miguel took one more step toward regaining the title with his win over former champion “Speedball” Mike Bailey Thursday — albeit not in the way he would have liked.

In the first X-Division title tournament semifinal, Miguel picked up a DQ win over Bailey thanks to intentional interference by Kenny King. He moves on to next Friday’s Over Drive and will face the winner of Black Taurus vs. PJ Black next Thursday.

Next week’s lineup

Next Thursday’s go-home show for Over Drive had three matches announced as two violent matches joined the aforementioned Black vs. Taurus match.

In one, Steve Maclin will face Tommy Dreamer in a no DQ “Old School rules” match. This was made when Maclin was throwing a fit backstage and Dreamer got in his face, offering himself up if Maclin wanted a fight.

In the other, former Impact World Champions Sami Callihan and Eric Young will rematch in another Callihan match creation: a Death Machine’s Double Jeopardy match.

Once you make your opponent bleed, they are then in jeopardy and can either be pinned or submitted. There are no countouts and no DQs. Callihan made the match following the attack on himself by Young and the rest of the new lineup of Violent by Design.

Here’s the current lineup:

  • PJ Black vs. Black Taurus in an X-Division title tournament semifinal
  • Steve Maclin vs. Tommy Dreamer no DQ match
  • Eric Young vs. Sami Callihan Death Machine’s Double Jeopardy match
