  • UFC had 100,000 searches yesterday.  On the good side, it was No. 2, only behind St Patrick’s Day.  On the bad side, that wouldn’t indicate much in the way of PPV numbers, but it was pretty much a lock to be a distant fourth for this year. 
  • Brad Maddox worked the WWE house show last night in Milwaukee, and will probably work Minneapolis tonight as well.  He wrestled Zack Ryder and wore tights that read “X GM”
  • WWE has contracted with a casting agency to hire extras to play scarecrows at WrestleMania.  The assumption is that will be for Sting’s ring entrance.
  • Jay Lethal vs. Jushin Liger for the TV title will be on the 3/27 ROH show in Redwood City, CA.
  • I will be on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern time at www.mmafighting.com
  • Ric Flair will be on the “I Hate Christian Laettner” documentary that will air today on ESPN.
  • The New York Times has a story on the show and mentions Flair in it
  • Spike president Kevin Kay talks combat sports and pro wrestling
  • ROH will be holding a show on 8/22, which is the Saturday night before SummerSlam, also in Brooklyn at the MCU Field, the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. 
  • HooknShoot, one of the earliest MMA promotions in the U.S.,which completely took its roots from pro wrestling (Jeff Osborne, a longtime friend of mine and wrestling fan going back decades was the founder) and also was the pioneer promotion in establishing women’s MMA in the U.S. with Shayna Baszler among others, has its 20th anniversary show on 3/21 in Evansville.  They will also be inducting Gary Myers into the HooknShoot Hall of Fame.  Myers was a former wrestler who was the first HooknShoot heavyweight champion.
  • Tickets for the 3/27 NXT show in San Jose go on sale to the public at 9 a.m. Pacific time (Noon Eastern)
  • The Phoenix Suns had WWE Night earlier this week with Lilian Garcia singing the national anthem, Daniel Bryan leading Yes chants before tip-off and appearances by Dolph Ziggler and the Bella Twins.

  • The Thursday night episode of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore discussed the state of boxing in America. Among Wilmore’s guests were ESPN.com and ESPN: The Magazine writer LZ Granderson and Mike Tyson. Tyson was absolutely captivating in discussing the fighter’s mentality, the crookedness of managers, and whether kids should choose boxing over MMA.
