SUNDAY’S NEWS UPDATE
- New Japan World crashed last night during the Invasion Attack show and I don’t know when it came back. There were people who were able to watch it live, and others who couldn’t. The replay of the show is up right now, as is Thursday’s show.
- It looks like Wrestling Dontaku in Fukuoka on 5/3, which is the next PPV, will be headlined by A.J. Styles vs. Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP title, and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Hirooki Goto for the IC title. They should make the announcements tonight or tomorrow night.
- This year’s G-1 may end some careers with 19 shows in 28 days. Guys were ruined for months with ten shows.
- Furious 7 is now estimated at doing $143,623,000 in its first weekend in the U.S. alone and $384 million worldwide. It was the biggest April opening in history and the ninth biggest movie open of all-time. It is expected to top the $1 billion barrier when all is said and done.
- As far as the controversial scoring from yesterday’s UFC, in the Liz Carmouche vs. Lauren Murphy fight, all three judges (Elvis Bello, Dave Terrill and Cardo Urso) gave Carmouche rounds two and three. In the Al Iaquinta vs. Jorge Masvidal fight, judge Doug Crosby gave all three rounds to Masvidal, Jude Dave Terill gave rounds two and three to Iaquinta and judge Cardo Urso gave two and three to Iaquinta. In total significant strikes, Masvidal had an edge every round, 29-12 in the first 20-17 in the second and 34-26 in the third, and Masvidal landed 62 head strikes to 18 for Iaquinta. The problem wasn’t the judges in that fight but it’s the perfect fight to illustrate the problems in the ten point must scoring system.
- On Friday, A.J. Lee was the sixth most searched for item on the Internet in the U.S. with 50,000 searches.
- Joe Robinson, who was C.J. Parker in WWE, will debut on 4/11 with CZW in their Best of the Best tournament, using the name CJP. The show takes place in Voorhees, NJ at Flyers Skate Zone. First round matches are Joe Gacy vs. Joey Janela vs. CJP, Jon Gresham vs. Tracy Williams vs. Trevor Lee, Buxx Belmar vs. Mike Bailey vs. Andrew Everett and Tommy End vs.Aaron Williams vs. Caleb Konley
- Walmart has banned selling Ronda Rousey’s new bio that comes out on 5/12 from its stores, stating it is too violent. However, they are offering the book on their web site.
- For those in Canada, Smackdown will be airing on Wednesday at 10 p.m. this week on SN 360 because there are so many regular sports (NHL, NBA and MLB) with Canadian teams playing in prime time that night. (thanks to Steve Khan)
