SATURDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • Shinsuke Nakamura recaptured the NXT Championship from Samoa Joe at today’s live event in Osaka, Japan. The match will air in full on next week’s episode of NXT. The show also featured Asuka facing Nia Jax and DIY taking on Akira Tozawa and Tajiri.
  • Nakamura did an interview after the title win. WWE also uploaded a clip from the match.
  • Joe will challenge Nakamura for the title in a steel cage match on December 8th in Melbourne. That show is also being taped to air on the Network in some fashion.
  • Sophia Grace, who gained notoriety after appearing on the Ellen show, is coming to SmackDown next week after being invited by Nikki Bella.

PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING

  • Dave Meltzer noted on last night’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that The Young Bucks vs. Hardys is scheduled for ROH’s show in Lakeland, Florida over WrestleMania weekend after Matt Hardy challenged the Bucks in a video at Final Battle. Meltzer said that it came down to the wire whether TNA would send clearance in enough time for Hardy’s video to appear on the show.
  • Matt Hardy uploaded video of him issuing the challenge to The Young Bucks.
  • Bobby Fish missed Final Battle last night due to the death of his mother. Our best wishes to him and his family.
  • Matt Riddle will face Katsuyori Shibata for Revolution Pro Wrestling on January 21st at York Hall in London. It was announced previously that the show would also feature Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Marty Scurll after Scurll turned on Sabre.

UFC

  • Conor McGregor said that he’s still a two-weight champion and the UFC isn’t fooling anyone by stripping him of the featherweight title. He also explained why he got his boxing license.
  • Tito Ortiz claimed that his fight against Chael Sonnen will be his last.
  • Due to injury, Wandelei Silva will no longer compete in his previously scheduled fight against Mirko Cro Cop in RIZIN’s openweight tournament on December 29th.
  • After Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes were laid off by the UFC, Ariel Helwani tweeted that Forrest Griffin and Big Nog are still employed in their roles.
  • Ronda Rousey is scheduled to appear on the Conan show with Conan O’Brien this Wednesday on TBS.
