Thursday Update

WWE

  • Vince McMahon’s lawyer Jessica Rosenberg issued a statement to Post Wrestling & Wrestlenomics denying a rumor that McMahon’s health is deteriorating: “Vince’s health is fine. We have no idea where the rumor that he had health issues came from, but it is not true.”
  • The rumor gained traction online after comments made by Lee Cole (the brother of former WWF ring boy Tom Cole): “Linda McMahon, somebody that her and I have in common, was talking to a person and telling them that her husband’s health is deteriorating fast.”
  • UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad responded to CM Punk giving him a shoutout on WWE Raw:
    • That’s my brother. We used to train together in Roufusport Milwaukee. He’s a good friend, he’s from Chicago, and any time we’re together, we’ll hit the stairs together or something and get a good workout in. He’s truly a genuine, good person. Seeing him give me that shout-out on Raw, that was epic. He’s always wanted to see me succeed.
    • I used to love Raw and I loved watching Punk. Then I got to know him, and he’s such a down-to-earth, good dude. He’s a friend and a brother.
  • Damian Priest told Sports Illustrated that he thought he was going to end up getting released when Edge was taken out of The Judgment Day in 2022:
    • We’d just had a major moment joining together forming The Judgment Day. It felt like no time had passed, and then it was Edge who told me that he was being taken out of the group. He waited to tell me after TV one night when we were on the road. I thought we were done. I was so upset. When Rhea found out, she was even more mad than me.
    • Edge was mad, too. I still speak with him–he was one of our biggest backers. When he told me, I remember him saying, ‘All of this, for nothing.’ And I repeated that–for nothing. That’s the way it felt at the time. I was waiting for the phone call to get released. Obviously, it worked out a lot differently.
  • During his appearance on Impaulsive, Dominik Mysterio was asked how long he plans to wrestle:
    • I love this business with all my heart, but I definitely don’t see myself doing it until the wheels fall off. I want to be smart about it. I want to have a family and have kids. I want to be able to play with my kids. I want to be able to run around with them.
  • Wrestlenomics issued a correction noting that the 18-49 demo rating for Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode was a 0.17, not a 0.14 as originally thought.
  • Mark Kaboly, a former Pittsburgh Steelers writer for The Athletic, is joining WWE as a digital contributor. He’ll also be on The Pat McAfee Show as a Steelers correspondent.
  • John Cena appeared on CBS Mornings and Jimmy Kimmel Live during the media tour for his new movie “Jackpot!”
  • CBS Mornings asked Cena how he feels about retiring from WWE competition: “I feel great. My last performance in a WWE ring will be in December 2025 – period. And I like saying that because if I lie to my audience, they’re going to call me on my BS.”
  • Cody Rhodes interviewed Randy Orton on “What Do You Wanna Talk About?”
  • On her Instagram Stories yesterday, Natalya shared a video of Raquel Rodriguez training in the ring. Rodriguez has been out of action since February dealing with MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) but is expected back soon.
  • Denise Salcedo has an interview with Ronda Rousey.

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • Tony Khan, Swerve Strickland, Mercedes Mone, Athena, Dustin Rhodes, Thunder Rosa, Darby Allin, Paul Wight, and Renee Paquette were among those in attendance at Globe Life Field today at the press conference announcing AEW All In: Texas for July 2025.
  • Khan thanked everyone who watched Dynamite last night and made it the number one show on cable for the day in the 18-49 demo.
  • The Bryan Danielson video package that aired on Dynamite can be watched here. It’s set to Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and includes footage from AEW, ROH, PWG, NJPW, CMLL, and Colt Cabana’s Wrestling Road Diaries documentary.
  • Cabana tweeted: “Happy to allow footage from Wrestling Road Diaries. The older we get, the more grateful I am those times and moments are documented.”
  • Danielson cut a fiery promo on Swerve Strickland after Dynamite, vowing that it won’t be the underdog Bryan Danielson that shows up at All In – it will be the Bryan Danielson who kicks people’s heads in.
  • AEW also uploaded post-Dynamite promos from Jeff Jarrett & Sonjay Dutt and The Acclaimed.
  • WrestleTalk interviewed MJF.
  • Both seasons of Starz’s now-canceled series “Heels” will be available to stream on Netflix starting on Sunday, September 15.
  • While promoting tonight’s Impact, Nic Nemeth praised TNA’s roster and crew: “I am so proud of the #TNA talent in front of & behind the camera. Every wrestling roster/team/company/etc. works hard, this team is something special! Another big #TNAiMPACT tonight on @AXSTV & TNA+ see you there”
  • Maki Itoh had to miss GCW’s event in Japan yesterday due to a broken arm.
  • Former TNA Knockouts Champion ODB posted a video saying she’s ready for another run. She asked fans where they want to see her wrestle.
  • The Get Comfy podcast spoke with Bobby Steveson (former NXT wrestler Damon Kemp).
