Monday Update

  • Bryan and I will be back tonight with Wrestling Observer Radio covering all the news from today and there is some major stuff.  Garrett and I will be doing coverage on Wednesday of the Vince McMahon documentary.
  • On the front page you can see Vince McMahon’s comments on the documentary coming out at midnight Eastern tomorrow night. The only thing I was told about it is that you should not judge it until after seeing the sixth episode. I haven’t seen it so I can’t make any statements on it.  Vince said that they conflated who is with the Mr. McMahon character.
  • The NXT archives are expected to be leaving Peacock for the CW app starting in October. However, the major NXT live shows will remain on Peacock through 2026.
  • Raw tonight on USA is from Ontario, CA and will be sold out with 8,700 or so in attendance. Bron Breakker vs. Jey Uso for the IC title and Sami Zayn vs. Ludvig Kaiser has been announced. Drew McIntyre returns. Raw is going to have real competition as not only does Jacksonville face Buffalo on ESPN, but Washington faces Cincinnati on ABC.
  • AEW has announced an 11/13 Dynamite in Bridgeport, CT, 12/4 Dynamite in Indianapolis and 12/12 Collision on a Thursday in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena.
  • FOX sent out a press release with the ratings of the college football game they had in the Smackdown time slot and pushed it was 81 percent above what the previous show in the time slot was doing last year. Smackdown wasn’t mentioned. Illinois vs. Nebraska did 4,213,000 viewers and a 1.05 in 18-49.  Smackdown was first on Friday on cable.
  • Queen of the Ring, a movie based on the life of Mildred Burke from Jeff Leem’s great book on her, will be screened on 10/15 at the Buffalo, NY, Film Festival at the North Park Theater. Little known trivia is that in the late 1980s Frank Deford wanted to write a movie on her life but it was probably decades ahead of society on that one as there were no takers.
  • The Jeff Jarrett vs Adam Page lumberjack strap match will air Saturday on Collision rather than Wednesday on Dynamite.  Dynamite is way too loaded at this point. There are still seven matches listed for the two-hour show on Wednesday which seems way rushed.
  • A correction from yesterday in the item on Brock Rechsteiner, the son of Scott Steiner. Rechsteiner caught an 85 yard touchdown pass as a wide receiver in Jacksonville State’s 44-7 win yesterday, but it was over Southern Mississippi, not Mississippi State.
  • ‘The final NXT on USA is tomorrow night with a press conference for the top three matches on 10/1, the Grayson Waller Effect with Axiom and Nathan Frazer, Riley Osborne vs Ridge Holland, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs. Tank Ledger & Hank Walker and Kelani Jordan vs. Wren Sinclair for the North American title.
  • Pro Wrestling Revolver from last night in Clive IA, saw Elijah (formerly Elias) over Myron Reed, Ace Austin over Robbie Eagles of New Japan and Krule beat Atticus Cogar.
  • GOUGE from Saturday night in  Raleigh, NC:  9 to 5 b Zach Cadillac 7 Sawdust, Sideshow Phil b Fatt Patterson, Snooty Fox b Lord Murphy Cosigan, Seymour Snott b Chet Sterling-DQ, Waylon Maze b Mecha Mercenary.  Next show is 10/276 at the Raleigh Brewing District in Smithfield, NC. (thanks to Count Grog)
  • IWF from Saturday night in Brockport, NY:  Troy Cooper b Empire, Beastly b Mike Gagner, Ron & Jordan Falco b  The Neck Cranker s, Gavin Glass b TJ Epixx to become the Boundless champion,  Vigilante Outlaws & Jeremy Adams b Body Bag Bros & Scott Richards, Don Diego Lopez b Dewey Murray, Me b Taylor OneShot, Nick Ando b John McChesney-COR (thanks to  Todd Brantley)
  • AIW has the JT Lightning Invitational tournament on 9/28 at the Admoor Shrine in Akron, OH.  There will be a 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. show. It’s a tournament that will include Slim Jim, Tyler Jordan, Matt Makowski, Dominic Garrini, Colin Delaney, Tre Lamar, Titus Alexander, Jake Hager, Tom Lawlor and Matthew Justice.
