At a time when WWE releases aren’t as common as they used to be, it was surprising to see three wrestlers let go this week. That WWE broke the news on a Sunday morning only made things more odd. The names who were released weren’t exactly shocking, with Emma, Darren Young, and Summer Rae no longer with the company. Of those, Emma was the only one currently on television.

With its wrestlers in Australia and its front office personnel in a total state of uncertainty, media reports continued hot and heavy regarding a potential imminent sale of World Championship Wrestling. While virtually all reports listed Mandalay Sports as the prime suitor, with a group headed by Eric Bischoff, most of the talk over the weekend involved a longshot in the deal which has been rumored for some time, the potential of the World Wrestling Federation buying out its long-time competitor, particularly after a story on 10/9 in Multi Channel News.

WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • We should have a full report from the show later, but the card for WWE’s first show on the European tour today had Triple H teaming with Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose against Cesaro, Sheamus & Bray Wyatt in Glasgow, Scotland. The lineups for the tour had to be reshuffled since Roman Reigns wasn’t medically cleared to go on it. He was supposed to team with Rollins & Ambrose, though WWE later announced that they’d be defending their tag titles against Cesaro & Sheamus before changing the cards again. Triple H wore full Shield gear for the match after being given a vest by Rollins, who cut a promo trying to explain the logic of Triple H teaming with them by saying that it was a call that he never thought he’d make and that you always need to have a plan B.
  • The match in Glasgow was Wyatt’s first since being out for the last several weeks with a viral infection.
  • WWE is advertising Braun Strowman vs. Kane for several stops on Raw’s European tour shows, including a possible meeting at next week’s Raw television taping at the Manchester Arena.
  • Paige sent out a tweet today thanking Mandy Rose, Nikki Cross, Ember Moon, and Ruby Riot for helping her train for her comeback at the Performance Center over the last few weeks.
  • Les Thatcher has also been spending some time at the Performance Center as a guest trainer this week.
  • A fan in the front row was hit in the face with the top of the announce table after Sami Zayn threw it off on SmackDown last night.
  • The New Day dressed up as old-school pro wrestling characters on last night’s show, with Big E dressed as Akeem, Kofi Kingston as Brother Love, and Xavier Woods as Jimmy Hart.
  • John Pollock and Wai Ting reviewed this week’s episode of SmackDown.
  • Baron Corbin cut a promo responding to The Miz ahead of their match at Survivor Series.
  • Kelly Kelly left the door open for a return to the ring in an interview with E!.

Pro Wrestling

  • The Young Bucks have been added to Chris Jericho’s rock music and pro wrestling-themed cruise that will take place next October. They’ll be part of ROH’s Sea of Honor tournament that will occur on the ship.
  • The Bucks will team with Kenny Omega against Rocky Romero, Trent Barreta & Chuck Taylor in a six-man tag match at ROH’s television tapings in Lakeland, Florida on November 12th.
  • Billy Corgan discussed his purchase of the NWA on the latest episode of the company’s “Ten Pounds of Gold” video series. Corgan also announced that Tim Storm would defend his NWA World Championship against Nick Aldis on November 12th in Los Angeles for Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.
  • Big Japan Pro Wrestling launched a new streaming service.
  • Great North Wrestling has a promo code (“GNWImpact”) for 50 percent off tickets to Impact’s television tapings in Ottawa on November 6-10. Tickets for Bound for Glory on the 5th are sold out.
