FIGURE FOUR WEEKLY:Looking at Neville’s potential post-WWE life

While Neville’s situation with WWE remains unresolved a week after news broke that he wanted out of the company, his potential entrance into the global pro wrestling landscape would provide the most interesting test case yet of how successful someone could be outside of WWE in this era. Neville being unhappy isn’t an isolated incident.

WRESTLING OBSERVER NEWSLETTER:October 23, 2017 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: Brock Lesnar vs. Jinder Mahal, Observer Hall of Fame candidates, more

A look at the WWE PPV picture over the next two shows, the championship scene and the TLC show is the lead story in the new issue of the Wrestling Observer, a double issue that features three back-of-the-book features, one on PED usage and lifestyle changes in pro wrestling, one on the life and times of Bobby Heenan and another of the 2017 Hall of Fame.

The lead story looks at Brock Lesnar vs. Jinder Mahal, the return of Kane and some of the new programs.

Look at the ROH Global Wars week, what the business says and doesn’t say, a rundown of the Chicago show, the anti-WWE movement, along with match-by-match coverage with star ratings and poll results.

Examine WWE drug testing, lifestyle changes among the wrestlers, what WWE talent is and isn’t allowed to do, beating tests, TUE’s, what Dave Palumbo said, what WWE has said in response, just how prevalent are TUE’s in WWE compared to other sports, double standards and rules between office, talent and part-time talent, why WWE drug tests in the first place, why the idea that pro wrestling isn’t a competitive situation is as shallow a thinking as possible and how the business has changed over the years as far as the look to be a star.

Look back at the life outside of wrestling of Bobby Heenan.

Check out the 2017 Hall of Fame ballot and thoughts on the candidates including breaking down most of the candidates on the ballot.

Get updates on WrestleMania ticket sales, Jinder Mahal in India, Austin Aries talks the economics outside WWE, WWE earnings and predictions for PPV numbers, and updates on Neville and Nia Jax.

WON BACK ISSUE: September 25, 2000 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: WWF moving to Viacom, WCW Fall Brawl reviewed, more

The Delaware Supreme Court on 9/18 ruled 3-0 not to overturn the Chancery Court ruling that the WWF would be able to accept the Viacom deal, and thus ending its 17-year relationship with the USA Network. The decision was more than one month in the making, which left much of the entire pro wrestling industry, and both networks, paralyzed to an extent, certainly as it pertained to wrestling programming.

SATURDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

Pro Wrestling

  • The angle with Bully Ray teasing retirement was furthered as he was attacked by Jay Briscoe at last night’s ROH television tapings. Jay hit Bully with a cheap shot and he went down motionless. Tommy Dreamer ran down for the save, with Mark Briscoe then coming out and kicking Dreamer low. The Briscoes gave Bully a 3D and he was helped to the back after not moving for a few minutes. That would seem to set up The Briscoes vs. Bully Ray & Dreamer at Final Battle.
  • Other matches that appeared to be set up for Final Battle at the ROH tapings were Cody Rhodes defending his World title against Dalton Castle, Kenny King defending the TV title against Punishment Martinez, Silas Young, and Shane Taylor in a four corner survival match, Marty Scurll vs. Jay Lethal, and The Addiction vs. War Machine.
  • Matt Riddle won’t be working NJPW’s World Tag League tournament this year after all, though Dave Meltzer noted on last night’s Wrestling Observer Radio that Jeff Cobb (who Riddle was supposed to team with) will still be in the tournament with an unknown partner. Riddle will face Tom Lawlor at MLW: Never Say Never in Orlando on December 7th.
  • Ron Jeremy attended the first show of PWG’s All Star Weekend in Reseda, California last night, sitting next to our Dave Meltzer.
  • Jimmy Jacobs made a surprise appearance at tonight’s WrestleCircus show. He confronted Sami Callihan and mentioned being fired for the Bullet Club selfie. Callihan punched him down but Jacobs came back and hit a spear. Jacobs tweeted after the appearance: “For the record, I have zero bitter feelings towards WWE. I had a great two and a half years there. But now I’m very excited to perform again.” (thanks to reader Jake Koch)
  • Ratings for Thursday’s episode of Impact were down slightly from last week. The show averaged 267,000 viewers, down from 279,000. Impact was again against both Thursday Night Football and the MLB playoffs.
  • Hannibal TV uploaded video from Impact Wrestling’s Bound for Glory press conference at the Crust & Crate in Ottawa yesterday, where the Impact pizza and signature beverage was revealed. They also have an interview with Eli Drake about Bound for Glory coming to Ottawa.
  • Bill DeMott and his family are on a mission to end drunk driving after DeMott’s daughter was killed in 2015.
  • Bad Luck Fale wished AJ Styles and Finn Balor good luck in their match at TLC.
