Wednesday News Update

WWE

  • While speaking with Sports Illustrated, The Undertaker praised the work that Sami Zayn is doing with The Bloodline:
          • Sami is a vital part of the whole thing, and he’s never been a bigger star. But this is also important for The Bloodline. It gives them something new. Roman has been champion for over two years. That means he has to go out and beat everyone he faces, right? That’s tough. But it’s a new dynamic with Sami in there.
          • How can you not enjoy this? It’s great storytelling.
  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson bought every Snickers bar at a 7-Eleven in Hawaii to make up for the Snickers that he used to steal from the store every day when he was 14:
          • I finally exorcised this damn chocolate demon that’s been gnawing at me for decades.
          • We were evicted from Hawaii in ‘87 and after all these years – I finally got back home to right this wrong.
          • I was broke as hell, so I used to steal a king sized @snickers EVERY DAY from 7-11 for almost a year when I was 14yrs old, on my way to the gym.
          • The Snickers was my pre daily workout.
          • The same clerk was there every day and always just turned her head and never busted me.
          • I’ve exercised a few big demons over the years (I still have a few left;) so I know this one seems VERY SILLY, but every time I come back home to Hawaii and drive by 7-11…
          • I always knew I needed to go in and clean out every Snickers bar they had – the right way.
          • And as a bonus it was a lot of fun to take care of everybody who walked into 7-11 while I was there.
          • Least I could do considering all the sh*t I used to steal from here.
          • We can’t change the past and some of the dumb stuff we may have done, but every once in a while we can add a little redeeming grace note to that situation – and maybe put a big smile on some stranger’s faces.
  • Austin Theory spoke to CityNews Ottawa about his recent character change: “The cocky, arrogant, douchy persona just really gets under people’s skin and it did its purpose. And having the Money in the Bank contract and the way that character was, there’s a little bit of a ceiling there just because when you look at Roman Reigns being so unstoppable and everything. Whoever is going to beat Roman Reigns it’s gotta be someone that is really going to beat Roman Reigns and not just by some luck and i think the chapter that Austin Theory is headed now, is setting him up to build to being that qualifier to stand toe to toe with Roman Reigns.”
  • Today is Naomi’s 35th birthday. Sasha Banks tweeted to her: “Thank you for being the light in this world. #HappyBirthdayTrinity @NaomiWWE”
  • Ronda Rousey has been added as a playable character in the mobile game RAID: Shadow Legends.
  • Rhea Ripley will be the guest on this week’s edition of Sheamus’ Celtic Warrior Workouts.
  • Legado Del Fantasma, Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, and Wade Barrett appeared on WWE’s The Bump this afternoon.
  • For the third straight year, Bad Bunny was Spotify’s most-streamed artist in the world.
  • WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded: RK-Bro vs. The Street Profits for the Raw Tag Team titles (Day 1 2022), the full segment where Roman Reigns announced that his leukemia is in remission (February 25, 2019 Raw), and Batista vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship (November 30, 2007 SmackDown).

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • Andrade El Idolo confirmed that his torn pec happened in a six-man tag match against The Elite on Dynamite this August. Andrade got hurt during a multi-man suplex spot but continued wrestling with the injury: “THIS IS THE MATCH WHERE MY INJURY HAPPENED I LEAVE YOU PART OF THE MATCH. You can’t imagine in what movement we can get injured, it happened to me in the 6-man Suplex almost starting the match but I wanted to finish as a professional.”
  • Dax Harwood spoke to Fightful about his interactions with CM Punk in AEW:
          • A man who obviously has his detractors and sometimes the detractors, and not just in AEW – around the wrestling world, and some times the detractors are louder than him and get their news out more than him. But again, it all comes from a place of passion. When he first came into the company, I remember talking to Cash (Wheeler) and I said, ‘if this motherf—er comes in and if he says something to me about how I dress, dress code or whatever, we’re going to have a problem’ and he came in, and he was the complete opposite. He had his door always open, invited people in, watched matches of the young wrestlers that asked him to, stuck around until the end of the show and anybody that had questions, he would answer the questions. He loves wrestling. Just like me, unabashedly is a professional wrestling fan. Just like Sasha (Banks), I talk to him every day and whatever he decides to do, I hope it brings him happiness and joy because he deserves it.
  • During a virtual signing, William Regal said Vince McMahon gave him his blessing to use the “William Regal” name in AEW: “No [WWE does not own my ring name]. I own William Regal. I own William Regal but if Mr. McMahon asked me not to use it, I wouldn’t use it… I’d be just Steven Regal. He gave me his blessing. No problems with me and Mr. McMahon at all.”
  • Renee Paquette and Jon Moxley will be the Rulers of the Jungle at this Sunday’s Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs game. Paquette and Moxley will lead the crowd in a “Who Dey” chant before the game.
  • Today’s episode of Talk is Jericho features an interview with pro wrestling agent Barry Bloom.
  • Christian Cage turns 49 years old today.
