WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
- Stephanie McMahon and Paul “Triple H” Levesque each posted video of them receiving their second COVID-19 vaccination today. Stephanie wrote: “Officially fully #vaccinated and one step closer to getting back to all of the things I’ve missed these past 12+ months! #COVID19”
- Franky Monet (formerly known as Taya Valkyrie) responded to those who have complained about her new WWE name: “Hey guys, I LOVE MY NAME…..maybe since I picked it. Go figure! I could be called Sunshine Tuna and I would make it work!!! So take a breath, stop complaining and enjoy this evolution and ride with me. Thanks #FrankyMonet. And for the record, nobody was going to name me Sunshine Tuna. it was just an example. The name does not make the wrestler. One that’s powerful and strong helps of course but just know we all think long and hard about these things. I’m me, la WERA LOCA. Always, now , forever. Anyways……… yesterday was special. I’m exactly where I’m meant to be Thank you for all the messages of support. I see you”
- Natalya praised her husband Tyson Kidd for the work he did as a producer over WrestleMania weekend:
Feels like we’re posing for a Hallmark Christmas movie! I don’t want to put @tjwilson711 on the spot — i just want to thank him for the most incredible work he did this weekend with every single women’s match at WrestleMania 37. Over 25 hours of practice (on top of many hours in our ring), I’m really so proud of the dedication that TJ has to helping others.
When TJ had to retire in 2015, it was challenging for him to picture his life outside of competing in the ring. For many athletes, we dedicate so much of our life to perfecting our craft, it often becomes our identity. It’s so inspiring to see how TJ is able to impact wrestling now more than ever before through his 25 years in the industry. He’s making the biggest impact of his career right now in the way he’s elevating others. The greatest thing we can do is give back! Those who do that— they are CHAMPIONS in every sense of the word.
Thanks for everything, @tjwilson711. Here’s to many more magical WrestleMania moments to come.
- Lacey Evans shared video of her informing her daughter that she’s going to have a sibling.
- Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Wrestling Academy thanked Vince McMahon for providing them with a practice ring.
- After performing Rhea Ripley’s entrance music at WrestleMania 37, rock musician Ash Costello tweeted that it won’t be the last we see of her in the wrestling world: “Thank you so much for all of the love this weekend! Being a part of the @WWE family was epic and I had an incredible time at #WrestleMania37 if you think this is all you’re going to see of me in the wrestling world, you’re sorely mistaken.”
- Former WWE EVP of Global Strategy Brian Stedman has joined Major League Baseball as their EVP of Strategy and Development.
- Starting this week, WWE’s After the Bell podcast will be released on Fridays going forward. This Friday’s show will feature Corey Graves and Vic Joseph discussing WrestleMania 37.
- Rhea Ripley, R-Truth, Booker T & AJ Francis, Bronson Reed, and Bubba Ray Dudley were guests on WWE’s The Bump this morning.
- Next week’s edition of The Bump will be a Best of WrestleMania week episode. The show will return with a new episode on Wednesday, April 28.
- WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Bobby Lashley vs. Randy Orton from the March 13, 2007 episode of ECW, Rey Mysterio & RVD vs. The Dudley Boyz from Judgment Day 2004, and Charlotte, Asuka & Becky Lynch vs. Carmella & The IIconics from the May 1, 2018 episode of SmackDown.
Other Wrestling
- TV Insider has an interview with The Young Bucks. Matt Jackson discussed The Young Bucks fully turning heel in AEW: “We’re committing to this. We haven’t been true heels for many, many years. Being a bad guy is what helped get us over in wrestling. I don’t think people realize what we’re capable of doing as bad guys. We’re going to bring back a lot of stuff that is tried and true. A lot of stuff we did in Japan or the independents. But we also want to bring in a new version of the Young Bucks. On Wednesday, we’re going to have a new look. The other thing making us different is having Don Callis with us. Talk about a heatseeker. In AEW, you’ve seen the happy-go-lucky, Disney version of The Young Bucks. We smile and pose. You’re not going to see that anymore.”
- The Young Bucks also spoke to TSN.
- Following Chris Jericho’s appearance on WWE’s Broken Skull Sessions, today’s episode of Talk is Jericho features Steve Austin discussing some of his classic matches.
- Forbes asked Jericho how he was celebrating AEW coming out on top in the Wednesday Night War: “Really nothing. We’ve never really worried about what NXT was doing. I know WWE NXT was watching our stuff during their show, but this was not a war that we were ever asking for, we were kind of thrust into it by proxy. The reason why we won it and won it so handily, is we never worried about what anybody else was doing, we just worried about our own show. I think the best thing about being unopposed, is now people don’t have to decide. There’s been a lot of shows that we’ve done with some great segments and some great moments that might have been missed because people were switching back and forth.”
- Fite TV chief operating officer Michael Weber issued a statement to Post Wrestling following the news that Triller’s parent company has purchased Fite TV: “Yes I’m staying (in) place. No major changes to the FITE brand. We just have some deeper resources behind us now that will help us grow the business.
- Tickets are now on sale for an Andrade meet and greet at The Wrestling Guy store in Huntington Park, California on Sunday, May 2. It’s his first announced post-WWE appearance.
- On The Angle Podcast, Heath (formerly known as Heath Slater) discussed declining a contract offer from WWE after he made a one-night return last July: “They offered me one back, but it was like half of what I was making. I was like, ‘Nah, I need to find myself and do other things and just chill. Just breathe and relax and spend time with the family. Just chill.’ I never burned any bridges up there, they all know me. I still talk to more than half the people [in WWE]. I was there for so long and we were friends. It’s no hard feelings. I told them, ‘I just want to go and do my thing for a little bit.’ They were like, ‘We don’t blame you, you get it.’ That was it.”
- CM Punk appeared on Barstool Sports’ My Mom’s Basement podcast. Digital Spy also posted an interview with Punk.
- The Orlando Sentinel published a story that looks at Matt Morgan’s financial ties to Joel Greenberg.
- Chris Van Vliet has an interview with Ace Austin.
