WWE

  • Last night’s SmackDown averaged 1.853 million viewers in the fast national ratings. The rating in the 18-49 demo was a 0.40. The viewership was up from the 1.792 million viewers that SmackDown drew in the fast nationals last week, but the demo rating was down from last week’s 0.50. Last week’s SmackDown averaged 1.883 million viewers and drew a 0.50 rating in the 18-49 demo in the final ratings.
  • WWE streamed a “global press conference” today ahead of tomorrow’s NXT TakeOver: In Your House event. Karrion Kross, Raquel Gonzalez, Ember Moon, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne, Cameron Grimes, and LA Knight took part in the press conference.
  • During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Todd Pettengill spoke about leaving WWE in the 1990s and returning to host tomorrow’s TakeOver event: “More [WWE] shows were being added, and I was still on the radio, so I was using all my vacation time to travel with WWE. My wife was like, ‘We should probably have a vacation at some point, it’s been five years.’ So it was the schedule. I often wonder what would have happened had I stayed and given up the radio career, but you never know. That’s why I’m so excited to come back for In Your House. There are going to be some amazing matches, and I think there is really something I can bring to the show with a fresh perspective.”
  • While doing press to promote Fast & Furious 9, John Cena was asked what he’ll be doing on August 21 (the day of SummerSlam). Cena replied: “Hopefully enjoying the summer. I don’t know.” When asked if he’d be in Las Vegas, Cena asked what’s in Vegas. When the interviewer then mentioned SummerSlam, Cens said: “Oh. That was a good way to do that. That was a good way to do that.”
  • WWE posted a storyline injury update on Montez Ford after he was attacked by Otis on last night’s SmackDown: “Montez Ford suffered a partial rib fracture and torn intercostal cartilage, as a result of the attack by Otis. He’s being evaluated at a local medical center and WWE Digital will follow up with any updates.”
  • Sheamus spoke to Vicente Beltran about locker room morale following WWE’s recent releases: “The locker room is going to get on with it. I’ve been with the company for 12 years and it’s part of the business. People come and go and you get on with it. Every Monday, you have to go out there and perform. I don’t think the morale of the locker room is down, it’s pretty good overall. It’s a lot better than it has been. It’s a lot better than when I first started. There is a lot more camaraderie there than there ever has been. You have experienced lads and younger lads working together. Going through a pandemic and working with no live fans, you talk to some legends who have come before us and they’ll tell you that they wouldn’t know how to perform in the environment we’re in. It’s a credit to everyone the last 15 months, keeping the company going and keeping the people entertained.”
  • WWE has filed trademarks for “Graysom Waller” and “Amari Miller,” which are Matty Wahlberg and Camron Branae’s new in-ring names.
  • WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle from the June 2, 2006 episode of SmackDown, Riddle vs. Roderick Strong from NXT TakeOver XXV and a six-woman tag match with Shotzi Blackheart, Tegan Nox & Mia Yim facing Raquel Gonzalez, Dakota Kai & Candice LeRae from last year’s TakeOver: In Your House.

  • Dropkick Depression announced that they’ve engaged with RAINN to “develop and deliver a sexual misconduct and assault education, awareness and support training in the fall/winter of 2021.” The training “is being specifically tailored to cater to the world of professional wrestling, will be interactive, and will relate to our experiences of how sexual violence affects us. This course will be available online (date/dates to be determined) for all professional wrestlers, promoters, and other individuals within the professional wrestling community.” A contact form has been opened for anyone within pro wrestling who wants to be notified when the course will be available.
  • The latest episode of Talk is Jericho features The Inner Circle discussing the behind-the-scenes of Stadium Stampede 2.
  • Today is Mark Henry’s 50th birthday. Jerry Lynn also turns 58 years old today.
