Making the most of a bad situation, Sunday night’s TLC pay-per-view provided a fun ending for what must have been a rough week for WWE. Two wrestlers (Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt) being pulled from a PPV due to a viral infection just days before the show is always a bad situation. But TLC being built almost solely around the in-ring reunion of The Shield made the timing especially awful. Having a mediocre PPV is forgivable in the Network era, but WWE knew that they had to give ticket holders worthy replacements.

With its wrestlers in Australia and its front office personnel in a total state of uncertainty, media reports continued hot and heavy regarding a potential imminent sale of World Championship Wrestling. While virtually all reports listed Mandalay Sports as the prime suitor, with a group headed by Eric Bischoff, most of the talk over the weekend involved a longshot in the deal which has been rumored for some time, the potential of the World Wrestling Federation buying out its long-time competitor, particularly after a story on 10/9 in Multi Channel News.

TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
- Two Survivor Series qualifying matches are set for tonight’s episode of SmackDown as Bobby Roode will face Dolph Ziggler in a two-out-of-three falls match and Shinsuke Nakamura will take on Kevin Owens. AJ Styles vs. Samir Singh, a Stranger Things-inspired edition of the Fashion Files, and the continuation of the Baron Corbin-Sin Cara rivalry are also advertised. And there should be some follow-up on Daniel Bryan appearing on Raw last night and being attacked by Kane.
- Tonight’s 205 Live has Mustafa Ali vs. Ariya Daivari vs. Gran Metalik vs. Tony Nese in a “Fright Night fatal four-way” and Cedric Alexander’s response to Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher urging him to embrace his cruelty last week.
- The second member of Raw’s men’s division team for Survivor Series was confirmed today as WWE announced that Braun Strowman would be teaming with Kurt Angle. Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that Raw’s team would be Angle, Strowman, Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns & Finn Balor.
- Despite strong performances in recent weeks, Nikki Bella and her partner Artem Chigvintsev were eliminated on last night’s surprise double-elimination edition of Dancing with the Stars. Bella tweeted about being eliminated: “Beyond shocked & sad about @artemchigvintse & I’s elimination. 9’s & the power of the #BellaArmy last week is shocking! But what an amazing journey! I’ve learned so much. Most of all 2 take chances, don’t be afraid, & live life 2 the fullest! Thank you DWTS!”
- John Cena also tweeted about Bella’s elimination, writing that no one knows more than him about how much she dedicated herself to the show and saying that it’s another reason why she inspires him every day.
- Mick Foley’s auction for relief efforts in Puerto Rico raised $21,261.12 by the time it concluded last night.
- Despite no longer being with the Fight Network, John Pollock and Wai Ting did a podcast reviewing last night’s episode of Raw.
- Cleveland Cavaliers player Kevin Love and his girlfriend Kate Bock dressed up as Sting and Hollywood Hogan for Halloween.

- Atsushi Onita’s retirement show took place at Korakuen Hall this morning.
- Tetsuya Naito will face Sami Callihan at the Logan Square Auditorium for AAW on February 17th. Naito will also be appearing for Pro Wrestling Revolver in Dayton, Ohio on February 16th and Michael Elgin’s Glory Pro Wrestling in Edwardsville, Illinois on the 18th.
- Impact Wrestling surpassed 1 million subscribers on their YouTube channel.
- Minoru Suzuki dawned a clown costume for Halloween.
- Houston Press ran a story on Bruce Prichard and his podcast.
- The Gananoque Reporter posted a story on Tyson Dux opening a pro wrestling school in Ontario
UFC/MMA
- Conor McGregor said that he thinks his next fight will be against Tony Ferguson.
- McGregor also apologized for the homophobic slur that he was caught on camera saying as he was talking to Artem Lobov after Lobov’s loss to Andre Fili earlier this month. “I was whispering in his ear and I was speaking on that and I said what I said,” McGregor said. “I meant no disrespect to nobody of the LGBT community. I didn’t mean no disrespect.”
- Dana White wrote an open letter defending how the UFC has treated Mark Hunt.
- The UFC uploaded the first and second episodes of Embedded for Saturday’s pay-per-view.
- Tyron Woodley thinks that his next fight will be against the winner of Georges St-Pierre vs. Michael Bisping.
- A podcast on the birth of the UFC will be included in the next run of ESPN’s 30 for 30 audio series.
- Arjan Bhullar was in the middle of eating dinner when USADA showed up for his most recent test.
