WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
- WWE and Blockchain Creative Labs have announced an exclusive multi-year agreement to launch an NFT marketplace for licensed digital WWE tokens and collectibles. Blockchain Creative Labs is a new NFT business and creative studio formed by Fox Entertainment and Bento Box Entertainment. The press release announcing the deal said:
In collaboration with Blockchain Creative Labs, WWE will create authentic NFTs that celebrate the company’s entire catalog of digital assets, including its most iconic moments, past and present WWE Superstars and premier events, such as WrestleMania and SummerSlam. Powered by Eluvio’s eco-friendly blockchain technology, the marketplace will serve as a hub for consumers to purchase, trade, sell and store digital tokens that will be authenticated through Eluvio’s blockchain and will be interoperable across Ethereum and other blockchains. The marketplace’s name and launch date will be announced in the coming weeks.
- Io Shirai tweeted after the scary looking bump she took near the end of last night’s Scareway to Hell ladder match at NXT Halloween Havoc: “I am not dead. I will always keep getting up to do my best. Just sad that the title is not on my waist…#HalloweenHavoc #WWENXT” Indi Hartwell sent Shirai tumbling off a ladder and onto a ladder bridge on the outside during the match. Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne defeated Shirai & Zoey Stark and Hartwell & Persia Pirotta to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.
- Jayne responded to Shirai: “Nothing but RESPECT to one of the greatest to ever do it.”
- Shawn Michaels, The Boogeyman, Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss, and Mandy Rose were guests on WWE’s The Bump this morning.
- Happy Corbin’s Haunted Scaries will be airing on WWE’s digital platforms later this week.
- Tyson Fury’s wife Paris said she thinks Fury will step into a WWE ring again at some point: “He is in touch with Vince McMahon all the time. He loves it. My sons are all big fans of it. For Tyson to do it is kind of like a Disneyland trip, the kids love to go and they meet all the wrestlers. To be that cool dad that can give them kids that dream, he does it. I think that’s one of the reasons we’ve come to do this, and obviously being a young man he told me he was a fan of all these wrestlers. So he’s definitely probably going to go into that again. I’m sure he will bounce into that WWE ring one of the days.”
- WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Bayley vs. Sasha Banks in a Hell in a Cell match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship from Hell in a Cell 2020, John Cena vs. Seth Rollins from the October 27, 2014 episode of Raw, and The Viking Raiders vs. Randy Orton & Ricochet for the Raw Tag Team titles from the November 18, 2019 episode of Raw.
Other Wrestling
- Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Silas Young, Quinn McKay, Trish Adora, Max The Impaler, Dak Draper, Beer City Bruiser, Joe Hendry, Joe Keys, Eric Martin, and Dante Caballero are among the ROH wrestlers who tweeted about taking bookings following the announcement that ROH is going on hiatus after Final Battle and taking the first quarter of 2022 to “reimagine” the company.
- Maria Kanellis-Bennett posted a thank you message to the ROH women’s division and everyone she’s worked with in ROH.
- ROH World Champion Bandido responded to ROH’s announcement: “Forever #THEMOSTWANTEDCHAMPION [heart emoji]”
- Brody King tweeted: “Violence is forever.”
- Ian Riccaboni wrote: “Hey everyone! For those asking about me personally, l appreciate it! My family and I will be absolutely, 100% OK. There’s just a few more question marks than there were before right now. I’m going to be radio silent for a bit. Love you all.”
- Session Moth Martina tweeted: “Ring of honor has been absolutely amazing throughout this whole pandemic. i cannot thank them enough for supporting me and giving me a chance. I will always be greatful for my short-lived time there”
- Brian Milonas tweeted: “I heard ‘no’ for 15 years. @ringofhonor was the first big company to look at me and believe I’m good enough. No buts, no caveats. Just that I was wanted on the team. I’m forever grateful no matter where the future takes me.”
- Eli Isom wrote: “I gave up everything just for a chance to learn how to be a professional wrestler. ROH gave me that chance, and taught me everything that I know. If you asked me to do it again I would without a second thought. No matter what’s next my heart and my soul will always be with ROH”
- DAZN asked CM Punk if he would have liked to have taken part in AEW’s World title eliminator tournament: “I would have loved to have been a part of it. Looking at the field and seeing the names that were in it, I definitely think I could have fit in there. It’ll come. You know, it’s not my time but it’ll come at a later date. Looking at the bigger picture of things, the map that I have laid out in front of me, I know all the destinations. You know, there’s so many people I wanna get in the ring with but knowing how much time I have, I know I’m going to get to all of them people.”
- Bryan Danielson promoted tonight’s Dynamite in Boston during an appearance on WEEI sports radio yesterday. Bryan discussed why having less matches is one of the benefits of him signing with AEW: “I’m a little more judicious, but, realistically, the big thing that has changed, and this was a choice when I re-signed my last WWE contract and when I came to AEW, and one of the benefits of AEW, is that I need to be doing less matches because I like to go hard. If you tell me, ‘Go a little bit lighter today,’ it’s easy to say but in practice it doesn’t work like that. I don’t care if there are 20,000 people like at Arthur Ashe Stadium or if there are 85 people, and I’ve wrestled in front of less than a 100 people many times, the people still pay their money to see the show and you want to give them a great show. It’s hard for people like me to pull back. Really, it’s about doing a less number of matches per year and focusing on the quality of those matches and making sure I give the live crowd something they are happy they paid their money to see.”
