WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
- Vanity Fair published a cover story on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson discussed whether he truly has presidential ambitions:
Johnson and I go back and forth on this strange subject for some time as he tries to honestly describe where he stands. He explains that he finds the idea humbling, concedes that he has talked to people in politics and done ‘a small amount of research and analysis to see where this comes from and to see what it could look like in the future,’ and adds suggestively that ‘indicators are all very positive — in, for example, 2024, and in, for example, 2028.’ He is not, he confirms, ruling the possibility out. But then he loops back to this: ‘You know, at the end of the day, I don’t know the first thing about politics. I don’t know the first thing about policy. I care deeply about our country. I care about every f*cking American who bleeds red, and that’s all of them. And — there’s no delusion here — I may have some decent leadership qualities, but that doesn’t necessarily make me a great presidential candidate. That’s where I am today.’
- Johnson also answered increasingly personal questions on Vanity Fair’s Slow Zoom video series.
- On last night’s NXT, a video aired teasing that a mysterious wrestler will be appearing at Halloween Havoc. “I will bury the past so I can start again,” the wrestler said. The wrestler’s voice was altered, but it sounds like Dakota Kai. Halloween Havoc is taking place on Tuesday, October 26.
- Carmelo Hayes posted a photo with Shawn Michaels after winning the North American Championship on last night’s NXT.
- The Bellas Podcast will relaunch on SiriusXM’s Stitcher beginning Wednesday, November 3.
- WWE congratulated William Shatner on becoming the first WWE Hall of Famer to go into space.
- WWE has filed a trademark for “Axiom.”
- Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs, Mustafa Ali, and Zelina Vega were guests on this morning’s episode of WWE’s The Bump.
- WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Rob Van Dam vs. Eddie Guerrero in a King of the Ring tournament first-round match from the June 10, 2002 episode of Raw, Batista vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Finlay from the October 13, 2006 episode of SmackDown, and Charlotte Flair vs. Ember Moon from the August 13, 2019 episode of SmackDown.
Other Wrestling
- Following a federal audit of illegally spent welfare funds, Mississippi State Auditor Shad White is demanding that the family of Ted DiBiase return 4.8 million dollars to the state. “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase owes $722,299, Ted DiBiase Jr. owes $3.9 million, and Brett DiBiase owes $225,950.
- A picture of Tony Khan taken at this past weekend’s Jacksonville Jaguars game appears to have revealed the planned card for Full Gear. Khan was holding a notebook with matches for Full Gear written on it.
- Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports uploaded an interview with CM Punk.
- Aubrey Edwards noted that she signed a contract extension with AEW this year.
- TalkSport has an interview with Josh Alexander. Alexander was asked if challenging Christian Cage for the Impact World Championship means more than challenging Kenny Omega would have:
Just with the history for IMPACT Wrestling and Christian Cage. I’m going to draw a lot of similarities between the two of us, especially heading into this match, so yeah, it does make it more special when you look into the details of his first world title victory and me challenging for my first world title.
It came as a surprise that Christian won the belt. You never know what’s going to happen, but the second he won, just as a fan I was surprised, but then I started thinking about Christian Cage coming to the IMPACT Zone.
Now we’ve evolved to the point where I’m the guy challenging Christian so it all just keeps getting more and more exciting.
As a kid I was like hey, he’s from Orangeville, that’s 10 minutes up the road from where I live. I was like if he can go from Orangeville to there, maybe I could?
And that was the first time it clicked in my mind that someone from small town Canada could be a wrestler and not just someone born in the [Hart] Dungeon.
- Cain Velasquez & Blue Demon Jr. will face Dan Severn & Mariachi Loco at Lucha Loco Libre’s show in Phoenix on Saturday, November 13.
- Zeda Zhang vs. KZT has been added to the card for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 7. The show is being held at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Friday, October 22.
- Chelsea Green accepted a challenge from Allie Katch for a match in GCW.
- Colby Corino vs. Steve Corino from the Premier Wrestling Federation is now available to watch for free on YouTube. The son vs. father matchup took place this August and was in celebration of Colby’s 25th birthday.
