F4W NEWSLETTER: Figure Four Weekly: Another chapter in Daniel Bryan’s unbelievable journey

When Daniel Bryan chronicled his “improbable journey” to the main event of WrestleMania in his first book in 2015, there’s no way that he could have known how unbelievable the story of his career would end up being. A day that, not long ago, seemed like it was never going to come arrived last Tuesday as WWE announced that Bryan has been medically cleared to wrestle for the company. “Following more than two years of extensive evaluations, four-time World Champion Daniel Bryan has been medically cleared to return to in-ring competition by leading neurosurgeons, neurologists and concussion experts, including Dr. Robert Cantu, Dr. Javier Cárdenas and Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher,” WWE’s statement said.

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Tonight is the Raw go-home show. All hands are on deck. For what it’s worth, nobody has seen Undertaker there but they also could be hiding him. Some of the people backstage, which doesn’t mean they’ll be on Raw, include James Storm, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, R-Truth, and Alicia Fox.

Evidently Max Holloway has a ton of weight to drop to hit 155 at the weigh-ins on Friday for Saturday’s UFC 223 show in Brooklyn. His nutritionist, George Lockhart, would not give a number in interviews, but said it tied for the most weight anyone he has ever worked with has had to cut at this last notice. He did note that the other person, who he didn’t mention, who had to drop similar weight, made it in four days while Holloway has six.

Big Show, who rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange this morning, noted that he had signed a new multi-year contract and is retiring no time soon.

A long story about the WWE doing a show in Saudi Arabia which won’t allow women to perform.

Two 90s wrestlers who worked independently and some WCW during their careers, Machine Gun Mike Kelly and Scotty McKeever both passed away over the past week. We’ll have more on both in the next issue. We send our best to the families and friends of both.

A note in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune talked about WWE officials scheduled to be at the 10/22 Minnesota Vikings football game and said they were there to discuss WrestleMania in 2020 or 2021. The only name they list as attending is Curt Hawkins. (thanks to Christopher O’Donnell)
