MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

With all the talk about A Kid, from yesterday and his match with Zack Sabre Jr., this was his 2017 match with Ricochet, which is a very different match but also great.

Raw tonight will have the return of Stephanie McMahon, pumping up an angle with Shane McMahon for Survivor Series most likely, as well as Brock Lesnar. It is possible Smackdown wrestlers could show up. They were in Glasgow last night and are scheduled for St. Louis tomorrow and have a rare Monday off. But we haven’t heard anything in that direction. The Raw men’s, women’s and tag teams for Survivor Series should be completed on tonight’s show, which should be the main focus of the show.

Friday’s Revolution Pro show is available now on the company’s On Demand service.

WWE

  • This doesn’t really mean much of anything, but in Los Angeles where they are doing four-straight nights at the Staples Center Saturday through Tuesday, the Raw main event was announced as Baron Corbin vs. Braun Strowman and the Smackdown main events are being advertised as A.J. Styles & Rey Mysterio & Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton & The Miz & Shinsuke Nakamura and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair. You know the drill. WWE advertising doesn’t mean it’ll happen like that or even that it’s likely to do so. I’m not saying cause/effect because it’s not, but the companies that tell the audience about card changes and deliver what is advertised had the best growth as far as live show attendance went over the last year.  
  • Ric Flair was at the Hamilton Tiger-Cats game in Hamilton, ONT yesterday against the British Columbia Lions. He did a motivational speech with the players, a segment with the cheerleaders and the announcers did lots of Flair, Four Horsemen and Dusty Rhodes references in commentary.

UFC

  • Mike Winkeljohn, who is feuding with Donald Cerrone, called Cerrone a cancer saying that Winkeljohn ruined the gym in the first place.  Cerrone was an original star at the gym when it first was making its name. Mike Perry, who faced Cerrone on Saturday, had started training at the gym. When the fight was announced, Cerrone felt since he was there first, they should kick Perry out of the gym out of loyalty to him, at least until after the fight. Instead, they chose Perry and kicked Cerrone out. Cerrone won the fight with an armbar and broke Perry’s arm.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Some more notes on the She-1 tournament held in London over the weekend. Madison Eagles greatly impressed the crowd. Jamie Hayter won the tournament and that gets her a shot at the Eve title. She had four great matches. The fans loved seeing Jetta get a point by going to a draw with Kasey. The time limit draw finished in this situation worked big. Charlie Morgan did a swanton off the balcony into the ring. A lot of the women ended up pretty banged up by the hard work. Jetta had a black eye. Charlie Morgan injured her ankle. Rhia O’Reilly suffered a knee injury. Millie McKenzie appeared to come in with a shoulder injury that got worse. Fans also were happy to see 90s Japanese star Command Boilshoi before she retires. Wrestling is meant to be physically tough, but I worry about an injury rate this high over a weekend. 
  • MLW tickets went on sale today for the 3/2 show at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, IL at MLWtickets.com. The first show in Cicero sold out and set the group’s attendance and gate records. 
  • The latest NWA Ten Pounds of Gold video is up.

  • Anarchy Wrestling on 11/24 at the Landmark Arena in Cornelia, GA.
  • ONE runs on 11/17 in Jakarta, Indonesia with Tyler McGuire vs. Zebaztian Kadetam for the vacant welterweight title. The show also features two Muay Thai fights and one kickboxing fight with Niekly Holzken vs. Cosmo Alexandre.
  • MWE announced its 12/2 show scheduled in St. Louis Park, MN has moved to the Richfield, American Legion in Richfield, MN. It’s the CWE crew plus an appearance by Nikita Koloff, who grew up as Scott Simpson in the area and his first wrestling appearance in Minnesota in 26 years.
  • Colt Cabana and Marty DeRosa will be doing commentary over bad pro wrestling matches like what Mystery Science Theater does with bad movies in an event on Wednesday night in Hamtramck, MI.
  • There was a strangle angle done in India this week. Rebel from Impact (Tanea Brooks) is there for shows put on by Great Khali in large arenas and stadiums. She did a dance off with Indian reality TV star and actress Rakhi Sawant, which ended up with Rebel giving Sawant a bodyslam. Sawant then claimed that Rebel tried to injure her back on purpose so she could never dance again. Sawant is in the media in India claiming that Bollywood model and actress Tanushree Dutta drugged and raped her. Dutta represented India in the Miss Universe contest in 2004 and has since become a well known actress. She claimed that Dutta paid off Rebel to injure her on her Instagram. It should be noted that Khali still acts like wrestling is real and they do angles like that there. 
  • Destiny Wrestling on 1/18 in Sarnia, ONT at the River City Vineyard featuring James Ellsworth, Kongo Kong, Teddy hart and Josh Alexander.
  • Zelo Pro Wrestling on 1/14 in Milwaukee at the Turner Hall Ballroom with Tessa Blanchard vs. Kyle Rae in a 2/3 fall match and Jordynne Grace vs. Shotzi Blackheart vs. Laynie Luck.
  • Some more matches worth watching are
    Tyler Bate vs Walter from the PROGRESS show.
    Bobby Gunns vs. Ilja Dragonov match from WXW. This is the one where the fans chant non-stop.
    Britain’s leading women’s pro-wrestling group pro-wrestling eve put up their biggest show on YouTube highlighted by Kay Lee Ray vs. Meiko Satomura.
