Announced for Raw are  The Miz vs. Roman Reigns for the IC title and Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman. No John Cena or Brock Lesnar scheduled for the show for the next couple of weeks.

Smackdown and 205 Live are Tuesday, also in Denver. Cedric Alexander vs. Jack Gallagher was announced for 205 Live.

While No Mercy may have been the biggest brand-exclusive pay-per-view that WWE has put on since the roster split, it was clear coming out of the show that the company’s focus is on building to one future match. WON BACK ISSUE: September 4, 2000: Fantastic WWE Summerslam reviewed, big ECW weekend, more

As the bar raises once again, the question becomes when does the bar hit the breaking point. SummerSlam was a spectacular show, with a great main event storyline going in, and even with a little tweaking of the main event itself due to Kurt Angle’s injury, a strong storyline paid off at the end while leaving the viewers still wanting more. But the match that stole the show was the tables, ladders and chairs match with Christian & Edge, The Dudleys and the Hardys.

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

I want to send my best thoughts out again to those in Las Vegas and just what an absolute senseless attack that was, but also not to forget that there are millions in Puerto Rico right now still suffering at the same time. This has been such a terrible last couple of months for natural disasters. 

Saturday’s UFC show will go on as scheduled. Dana White told Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the company would be donating $1 million to the families of the victims of the tragedy. Joe Rogan announced all ticket money from the comedy show he’s doing Friday night will also be donated to the Las Vegas Victims fund. A ton of UFC fighters, and the vast majority of the office, live in Las Vegas. UFC sent out a memo very late last night asking everyone to contact them in case some of the staff may have been on the site of the shooting. 

Arda Ocal, who was formerly an announcer in WWE, I was told was at the site but is okay.

We have an audio show up with Jim Ross on the site today. We tried to bring up different subjects than most on it. Ross’ autobiography, “Slobberknocker,” will be released tomorrow, covering his life up through 1999.

Raw tonight will feature another segment with Enzo and the cruiserweights. The NFL game head-to-head is the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Washington Redskins.

Billy Corgan has now officially taken over ownership of the NWA. He did an interview with Sports Illustrated talking about ideas he has for the future and how he and Ed Nordholm of Impact have been having regular conversations.

WWE

  • John Cena will be in Los Angeles for the “Dancing with the Stars” tonight with Nikki Bella performing.
  • Both Dean Ambrose and Renee Young had already left Las Vegas for Denver tonight so were not in Las Vegas last night when the shootings took place.

UFC

  • Rafael Natal announced on the MMA Hour today that he was retiring form MMA.
  • UFC has announced Kalindra Faria vs. Mara Romero Borella as a women’s fight on the PPV card on Saturday.
  • I was just told that because of what happened last night, the secondary market price for Saturday’s UFC show has plummeted.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Championship Wrestling from Hollywood will debut on Saturday at 7 a.m. on 110 new CW Plus affiliates. These are mostly smaller market stations, as well as Tuff TV and Fite TV.
  • A match with new IWGP tag team champions the Killer Elite Squad, Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr., against former champions War Machine, Ray Rowe & Hanson, was announced for the 10/13 ROH shows in Pittsburgh. The title won’t be at stake in this match.
  • The Guardian has a story on brain damage and Muhammad Ali noting there is evidence he had it earlier than anyone has pegged it.
  • Defy Wrestling out of Washington has sent a letter to the former What Culture promotion which is changing its name to Defiant Wrestling. Matt Farmer of Defy Wrestling said they have trademarks on both Defy Wrestling and Defyance Wrestling and have asked them to reconsider using that name.
  • John Cena Sr. will interview Gary Cappetta this coming Friday night for his television/on-line series “Memories and Legends,” with a free taping at the MWF Studios at 360 Main St., which is open to the public.
