Tuesday News Update

  • PWInsider reports that Randy Orton was spotted in Birmingham, Alabama yesterday, which is where WWE wrestlers typically go to have surgeries done. Orton has been out of action since May due to back issues.
  • On last night’s Raw, Mia Yim was given the nickname “Michin,” which Yim said means “crazy” in Korean. She was referred to as “Michin Mia Yim” during a backstage interview. WWE had filed a trademark for “Michin” on November 7.
  • NXT’s JD McDonagh will make his WWE Main Event debut on this week’s episode. McDonagh vs. Cedric Alexander and Asuka vs. Kiana James were the matches taped for Main Event last night.
  • Stephanie McMahon tweeted that last night’s Raw featured the first all-female photography team to staff a WWE show: “During last night’s #WWERaw in Louisville, @WWE’s Georgiana Dallas, Andrea Kellaway & Heather McLaughlin made up the first all-female photo team to staff a #WWE show – carving their names in company history forever! Thank you for all that you do!”
  • Bianca Belair told the Metro that it would be a dream come true to be in a movie with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson or John Cena: “I would love to! One day, it would be a dream come true if I was in a movie with The Rock or John Cena. They’re the ones that have the blueprint of transitioning and doing multiple things. That’d be a dream come true.”
  • Titus O’Neil made an appearance on Good Morning America yesterday as part of the show’s “United States of Pie” competition.
  • WWE has a behind-the-scenes video focusing on Logan Paul from Crown Jewel.
  • “Macho Man” Randy Savage would have turned 70 years old today.
  • The following matches were uploaded to WWE’s YouTube channel: Alexa Bliss vs. Randy Orton (Fastlane 2021), The Street Profits vs. The New Day (Survivor Series 2020), and Seth Rollins vs. Shelton Benjamin (March 11, 2019 Raw).

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • AEW uploaded a 14-minute video previewing Saraya vs. Britt Baker, Sting & Darby Allin vs. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal, Jade Cargill vs. Nyla Rose, and Jungle Boy vs. Luchasaurus ahead of Full Gear.
  • After receiving criticism from fans, PROGRESS Wrestling issued a statement about why it’s running an event in Dubai.
  • New NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tyrus posted a message on Twitter to the “woke haters trolls.” He wrote: “I know what da woke haters trolls cheer for. their boos and hate builds my self esteem! Gives me focus! makes me strong! I’ll keep winning y’all keep watching the New York Times bestselling author #1 late night show and New @nwa world heavyweight champion #tyrussmash #nuffsaid”
  • Inside The Ropes reports that World of Sport is looking to relaunch and has spoken to Nick Aldis and Mickie James.
  • In an interview with Wrestling Inc, Aldis explained why he thinks the NWA is the most toxic brand in wrestling right now:
          • The fan sentiment. The disregard for the fans. I’m not trying to get into the political stuff. That’s not interesting to me. Politics in this country is very, very split, very divided, and I’m a centrist. However, I feel like as a brand, you should do your best to be apolitical as well. And that’s not even really the meat of the matter.
          • It’s more about, the audience have been telling them one thing for a long time, and Billy specifically has been disregarding them and doing the complete opposite. Almost out of spite. I like to think I’m as in touch with the NWA audience as anybody, really more so than anybody. And the amount of communications I’ve had from fans over the last year and a bit, just pleading with me, ‘Please talk to him. Why is he doing this? Why is he doing that? What’s happened to the show? Why is he doing this?’
  • Lady Frost discussed being a free agent: “I do [enjoy being a free agent]. We had still had freedom before, but I think there’s a certain appeal after you’ve been on television a bit and you’re a little more recognized, I think you wanna get out and just do everything that you can do, whatever weekends that you want and stay for a week or two weeks or a month. Yeah, freedom is always nice.”
  • Billie Starkz will make her MLW debut at the promotion’s Blood & Thunder tapings in Philadelphia on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
  • Jazmin Allure noted that she’s been signed with Women of Wrestling since June.
