TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • Gran Metalik is scheduled to make his 205 Live debut tonight, with Neville vs. TJ Perkins also set for the show.
  • Bobby Roode vs. Kassius Ohno for the NXT title is being advertised for next week’s NXT TV tapings at the University of Central Florida. Shinsuke Nakamura returns to TV on that show as well.
  • Vince Vaughn has been tapped for a role in “Fighting with my Family,” the film that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s production company is producing about Paige and her family. Vaughn will play an “80’s wrestling star who squandered his money and opportunities because he didn’t have the capacity to handle his fame.”
  • WWE announced Braun Strowman vs. Big Show for next week’s Raw.
  • Kelly Kelly was backstage at Raw, with WWE posting a video on their YouTube channel teasing her making an appearance at WrestleMania.
  • DIY reacted to Kevin Owens turning on Chris Jericho during the Festival of Friendship.
  • Heath Slater and The Ascension’s rental car was broken into during WWE’s trip to Oakland for a house show on Monday.
  • Bray Wyatt got the custom plates for his WWE Championship. Troy University also has an article on Wyatt becoming WWE Champion.

Pro Wrestling

  • Ring of Honor has announced Jay Lethal vs. Cody Rhodes in a Texas bullrope match and The Kingdom defending their trios titles against Silas Young, Beer City Bruiser, and a mystery partner for the promotion’s WrestleMania weekend show in Lakeland, Florida on April 1st.
  • Marty Scurll defending the TV title against Lio Rush is also set for ROH’s 15th Anniversary PPV on March 10th in Las Vegas.
  • In addition to the Honor Rising cards that were released, NJPW announced a Togi Makabe 20th anniversary show for February 21st at Korakuen Hall. Makabe will team with Tomoaki Honma against Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano in the show’s main event.
  • Kazuchika Okada is scheduled to face Tiger Mask W in a non-title match for NJPW on March 6th.
  • Joey Janela has announced a WrestleMania week show that will take place in Orlando on March 30th, with Matt Riddle vs. Dan Severn and Eddie Kingston vs. Matt Tremont already scheduled.
  • Dave Meltzer appeared on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast.

UFC/MMA

  • After reports claimed that he and Conor McGregor had agreed to financial terms on their potential boxing super-fight, Floyd Mayweather tweeted that no deals have been made and he’ll be the first to let the world know if he does come out of retirement.
  • The Nevada State Athletic Commission is re-evaluating Conor McGregor’s punishment for his bottle-throwing incident at the UFC 202 press conference prior to his fight against Nate Diaz.
  • Karim Zidan has an article on Bleacher Report focusing on the UFC’s unsuccessful pursuit of Fedor over the years.
  • Luke Rockhold is targeting a fight with Jacare Souza.
  • Johny Hendricks commented on his weight cut now that he’s moved up to middleweight.
  • Gunnar Nelson vs. Alan Jouban is set for the UFC’s show in London on March 18th.
