WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • After starting last week, NXT’s battery charging teases continued to air last night. The night ended with the battery charged at 51 percent. WWE hasn’t revealed who the teases are for.
  • On last night’s NXT, Karissa Rivera had her first match since signing with WWE. She’s now using the name Elektra Lopez and lost to Franky Monet last night.
  • Monet appeared on The Wrestling Inc. Daily and discussed her name change: “I fought really hard for Taya, but sometimes, it’s time to evolve and change and kind of make this new chapter in my career, and I feel like this was the time for it. It was a little bit sad at first because I felt like she died, but she’s always a part of me. Franky is an evolution of Taya, definitely. Anybody who knows my career knows that this is just a natural transition into Franky Monet.”
  • Kushida reflected on facing Kyle O’Reilly on last night’s NXT. Kushida wrote that he was considering retirement around 2017 because he was concerned about his physical and mental health after every match.
  • Samoa Joe will be the guest on next week’s episode of Fox Sports’ Out of Character with Ryan Satin podcast.
  • Austin 3:16 was born on this day 25 years ago as Steve Austin won the 1996 King of the Ring tournament.
  • During a Twitter Q&A, a fan asked CM Punk what it would take for him to appear on Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions: “Money. Nobody gets any royalties for anything shown on peacock. Nobody. Yay wrestling biz!”
  • In an interview with the Metro, Rey Mysterio said he’s not interested in wrestling against his son Dominik: “We actually talked about this a while back, when my son started to train. The more and more we got to spend time together in the ring and outside of the ring, it came to the point where me and my son were like, there’s no need. The connection here is so beautiful, the love — more than father and son, I think we’re like best friends. For the moment, there’s no time for us to even be thinking, ‘how would it be like to face each other?’ We’re enjoying such a great moment right now within our personal lives, within our wrestling careers. For me, it’s a complete blessing, before I end up retiring — to have been able to share these moments with my son. So that thought of possibly facing each other, I think was thrown down the trash a while back.”
  • New WWE writer Kenice Mobley appeared on the Asian Not Asian podcast and spoke about being hired by WWE: “Yes, I have just been hired by WWE. Given the things that you know about me and my entire life and what I’m into, yes [that’s surprising]. Yes, also a surprise for me. They did not require me to know anything about wrestling but I do have a background in film production and comedy writing and they’re like, ‘Perfect. Come on in.’”
  • Peacock is coming to Amazon Fire TV starting tomorrow.
  • Sami Zayn, Sonya Deville, and D-Von Dudley were guests on today’s episode of WWE’s The Bump.
  • WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Triple H vs. Kane in a World title vs. mask match from the June 23, 2003 episode of Raw, Goldberg vs. Kevin Nash from Bash at the Beach 2000, and Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre from Stomping Grounds 2019.
