Friday Update

  • Garrett Gonzales and I will be up shortly with our week in review and answering questions show.  Bryan and I will be up Sunday night covering the weekend news including Dominion and G-1 Climax, as well as Smackdown.
  • Mya Lesnar of Colorado State, the daughter of Brock Lesnar, won the NCAA women’s shot put championship with a throw of 62-feet 4 1./2 inches last night in Eugene, OR.  She won it on her first throw.  Abria Smith of Illinois wws second at 61-10 3/4.  Lesnar’s that throw would have gotten her sixth place in the Olympics last year and her best throw earlier this season would have gotten her a bronze medal.  In 2024, the Lesnars became only the second father and daughter to each be NCAA champions in history.  Brock won the 2000 NCAA title in wrestling at 286 pounds and Mya won the NCAA indoor shot put championship late last year.  They join Jerry Tarr (1962 NCAA champion in the 120 and 440 yard hurdles) and daughter Sheila (1984 heptathlon champion) on the short list.
  • Vince McMahon refiled a motion asking for arbitration in the Janel Grant case.  This is a follow-up on a previous filing.
  • Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon and TKO all filed this past week to try and get the Ring  boys lawsuit thrown out claiming lack of jurisdiction, claiming Maryland courts shouldn’t apply to them since they don’t live in Maryland.
  • Jey Uso is the mystery guy in the King of the Ring tournament.  He will be in a four-way with Rusev, Sheamus and Bronson Reed on Raw Monday.
  • Smackdown tonight is in Lexington, KY.  There will be three KOR and KOR qualifying matches with Randy Orton vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. LA Knight vs. Aleister Black, Cody Rhodes vs. Andrade vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Damian Priest and Charlotte Flair vs. Chelsea Green vs Alexa Bliss vs. Candice LeRae.  Also scheduled for tonight includes John Cena, Jacob  Fatu and the belief is that Hikuleo will be debuting.  The show had 11,600 tickets out as of earlier today.  Rupp Arena is gigantic so this won’t be close to sold out, but given the current regime, there’s a good they’ll say it is anyway.
  • Fightful reported Kiana James will be backstage. She’s been out for a year with knee surgery.
  • Some notes on the Dynamite ratings from Wednesday that weren’t in the Observer.  The NBA finals on ABC did 9,195,000 viewers and a 2.60 in 18-49.  Among all stations, network and cable,  Wednesday night in prime time, TBS was fourth in 18-49, fifth in 25-54, third in 18-34. second in men 18-49 (behind only the NBA), third in women 18-34, second in men  18-34,  and third in men 25-54.  It did a below usual 1.28 viewers per home, which likely has to do with the NBA game.

Arena Mexico starts a week of loaded shows tonight:

  • Kira & Jarochita vs. Persephone & Zeuxis
  • Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja (CMLL tag champs) vs. Magnus & Rugido (Mexican national and MLW tag champs) with  n titles at stake

  • Those who will be added to the Tokyo Dome, Wembley Stadium, Madison Square Garden and Arena Mexico club this week are Ospreay, FTR and Adam Cole.
  • If Mercedes Mone wins the CMLL world title on Wednesday, she’ll join a lineage that includes Bull Nakano, Xochitl Hamada, Akira Hokuto, Mariko Yoshida, Syuri, Willow Nightingale and Stephanie Vaquer.
  • Sunday’s TripleMania in Monterrey is almost sold out which would be 13,000 or so fans.  Worlds Collide likely helped with the momentum on his.  El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Alberto El Patron for the AAA Mega title in a cage match is the main event.
