Joseph Currier recaps Extreme Rules, which saw Brock Lesnar cash in to again become Universal Champion.

Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view ended with Lesnar cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Seth Rollins to win the Universal title. After Rollins & Becky Lynch defeated Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans in the main event, Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out with the briefcase. Rollins charged at Lesnar, but Lesnar gave him two German suplexes. The bell rang to start the match — and Lesnar hit an F5 to again become Universal Champion.

Rollins will get his rematch for the Universal title at SummerSlam next month. He won a number one contender’s battle royal on the post-Extreme Rules edition of Raw, defeating Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, Corbin, Rey Mysterio, Sami Zayn, Big E, Bobby Lashley, and Cesaro.

Rollins’ three-month reign as Universal Champion ended up being pretty lackluster. It started strong with a great defense against AJ Styles, but Rollins’ matches were only as good as his opponents allowed them to be. It’s difficult to succeed when the majority of your PPV title defenses are against Corbin.

  • WWE uploaded a video where Drake Maverick interrupted their panel with Mattel at Comic-Con today and was looking for R-Truth.
  • During a Q&A with Yahoo Sports, Seth Rollins was asked about there being an online sentiment where it’s cool to hate WWE: “We’re the New York Yankees. It’s easy to hate the New England Patriots. We’re those teams, we’re the dynasty. It’s easy to hate us, but we’re still the most popular company in the world at what we do. We’re so far beyond being a wrestling company that it’s very easy to point the finger and hate on us. That’s the cool thing to do, it makes perfect sense to me, it’s how it’s always been in sports and entertainment, you always hate the big guy. It’s fine, I’m not upset about it at all. I just want people to understand and appreciate the things we go through and the fact that we’re always trying to do our best. Nobody is taking it easy, nobody is just getting by. Everybody from top to bottom, every department in the entire company is putting in as much work as they possibly can to make this the best.”

  • Adam Cole tweeted an update on Britt Baker after she suffered a concussion at Fight for the Fallen: “@RealBrittBaker is getting better already, and I couldn’t be happier. She’s one of the strongest people I know!”
  • Colt Cabana has announced that his weekly Art of Wrestling podcast is mostly coming to an end/going on hiatus. He said he’ll be starting a Patreon for the back archives of his interviews, with the price likely being $4 a month. There will also be another tier for an extra dollar per month where Cabana will put up stuff here and there. Cabana said if 500 people sign up to the Patreon, he’ll do some new old school Art of Wrestling one-on-one interviews. Cabana said he wants to take a breath and the podcast may be something he comes back with later. He tweeted about the schedule for the podcast through the end of the year: “Feeling so much love today which is always heart warming. I’ll be podcasting the next two weeks. I’ll be podcasting from the #edfringe. I’ll put out some of the live shows through the end of the year. Then it will wind down….Please stay subscribed to the feed, ya never know”
  • Brian Cage, Tessa Blanchard & Tommy Dreamer vs. Sami Callihan, Madman Fulton & Dave Crist, Taya Valkyrie vs. Jessicka Havok, and Moose vs. Fallah Bahh are set for Impact Wrestling’s TV tapings in Windsor, Ontario, Canada this Saturday.
  • ROH uploaded The Briscoes vs. Rush & Dragon Lee for free. The match took place at their post-Best in the World TV tapings in June.
  • Brian Pillman Jr. vs. Richard Holliday has been added to MLW’s Never Say Never TV tapings in Queens, New York next Thursday.
  • Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) will face The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz) in the quarterfinals of Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Road to Royal Quest tag team tournament on August 4. The team that wins the tournament will challenge for the IWGP Tag Team titles at NJPW Royal Quest in London on August 31.
