WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • The 2018 Mae Young Classic premieres on the WWE Network at 9 p.m. Eastern time tonight and will air in that post-NXT time slot leading up to Evolution on October 28. The four matches airing on tonight’s episode are: Meiko Satomura vs. Killer Kelly, Tegan Nox vs. Zatara, Lacey Lane vs. Vanessa Kraven, and Rhea Ripley vs. MJ Jenkins.
  • WWE’s press release for season two of Mixed Match Challenge noted that the finals of the tournament will be taking place at TLC on December 16.
  • Buddy Murphy vs. Gran Metalik has been announced for next week’s 205 Live. Metalik defeated Murphy’s tag team partner Tony Nese last night.
  • PWInsider reported that Nia Jax, who hasn’t wrestled in several weeks, was at the WWE Performance Center this week doing physical therapy on her leg.
  • As they often do, WWE sent out a survey to gauge interest in potential new show concepts for the Network. They also asked if viewers would be more likely to watch NXT if it were live and about their interest in NXT UK and potential live event specials like last year’s Starrcade house show.
  • Heath Slater wrote a post on Instagram about the tag teams and factions he’s been in and wanting to do things his own way one day: “I got signed with @wwe when I was 22 years old. I’ve been through Deep South, Florida Championship Wrestling and The Foundation of @wwenxt Ive been in faction after faction and tag team after tag team none of them actually went the way I hoped. I just hope that one day before this is all over that I can do things my way. And as a grizzled young vet in the business I hope that time comes sooner than later.”
  • Dave Bautista has signed with the CAA talent agency. He tweeted about the news: “Hi my names Dave and I’m here to f*ck sh*t up! Not literally! But if I do break anything I will fix it. And If I can’t fix it I will pay for it I swear! And then I will apologize and hug you until it becomes embarrassingly awkward. But yeah! Here we go!”
  • Diamond Dallas Page was the guest on yesterday’s episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.
  • Corey Graves tweeted a storyline explanation for how The Shield were able to get out of jail so quickly in their angle on Monday’s Raw: “Made a few calls this morning. Turns out @DavidOtunga has a judge friend in Columbus and called in a late night Labor Day favor for The Shield. Everybody can relax now.”

Pro Wrestling

  • In the aftermath of All In, the NWA and Being the Elite have both released fallout episodes from the show. The NWA’s Ten Pounds of Gold episode focuses on Cody and Nick Aldis backstage before their match and Cody’s NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship win. Being the Elite is over 47 minutes long and chronicles the weekend.
  • On Sean Mooney’s podcast, Marty Scurll said that his match against Kazuchika Okada only went one minute over its allotted time. Despite other things on the show going long, Scurll said Nick Jackson told him and Okada not to cut anything before their match. Scurll was asked about him not being out there for the show-closing promo and said that he didn’t know it was going on and was in the shower after his match.
  • Kenny Omega and Cody appeared on a live episode of Macaulay Culkin’s Bunny Ears podcast at Starrcast.
  • Omega also did a post-All In interview with Sports Illustrated.
  • Matt Jackson praised the five other wrestlers in the main event six-man tag at All In.
  • Ring of Honor announced that they’ve released the final batch of “production hold” tickets for the ROH & NJPW G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden next April.
  • Ahead of their match at EVOLVE 112 on Friday, NXT’s Velveteen Dream cut a promo calling Austin Theory entitled.
