TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • Ric Flair tweeted about the passing of Kevin Greene: “The Sack Master Man! I’m At A Loss For Words… What Started Out As A Relationship Of Mutual Respect Resulted In A Bond Of Friendship Throughout These Years. I Have 2 Autographed Jerseys That You Inscribed ‘You Are Simply The Best!’ Let Me Return This By Saying You Were The Best! We Will All Miss You! Rest In Peace Kevin!”
  • Eric Bischoff also paid tribute to Greene: “So very sad to hear about the passing of Kevin Greene. An amazing NFL Hall of Famer, a great  person and a friend. RIP Kevin.”
  • Sean “X-Pac” Waltman wrote about Greene: “Kevin Greene was as intense an individual as I’ve ever been in the ring with. Our 6 Man match w/Kevin, Naitch, & Roddy from Slamboree ’97 is one of the highlights of my career. I’m honored to been a part of that with him. Very sad to learn he passed away today. Ripkevingreene”
  • In a video uploaded by WWE, Shelton Benjamin opened up about dedicating he and Cedric Alexander’s Raw Tag Team title win to Shad Gaspard: “Knowing that I’d gone in there dedicating this moment to Shad [Gaspard], when I attended his funeral, I made a promise to myself that if I won a title, especially a Tag Team Championship because I know Shad and JTG worked hard even though they never actually got a chance to wear the titles. Like I made a point then that no matter what title it was gonna be, it was gonna be dedicated to Shad so, I wear this title, I won this title and there was no question, which I never dedicated a title win to anybody and I think this was so significant, so important. Just for him and his son. Part of the reason is I want his son to know just how great a guy that his dad was, what a big influence and what a big impact that he had on myself and the world.”
  • Gaspard’s widow Siliana has filed court papers against the state of California, Los Angeles County, and the city of Los Angeles that allege negligence and dangerous condition of public property relating to Gaspard’s death. The Los Angeles Daily News wrote about the court papers:
“Siliana Gaspard alleges there were insufficient signs warning of the dangers of swimming there, that lifeguards who tried to rescue her husband and his 10-year-old son near the 4200 block of S. Ocean Front Walk were understaffed and not properly trained, and that they did not bring the proper equipment. She further alleges the rescuers assisted the boy, but ‘left Shad Gaspard in the water to die.’ The plaintiff brought the still unofficial lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of herself and Gaspard’s son, identified in her court papers only as A.G., and is seeking unspecified damages and burial costs.”
  • On Raw talk last night, Ricochet was asked if he thinks he should change course and join RETRIBUTION. Ricochet cut an emotional promo where he said something needs to change, but he doesn’t know what that is.
  • Charlotte Flair also appeared on Raw Talk and discussed teaming with Asuka: “Well I don’t think I’ve ever really had the opportunity to say this, but I really believe when I beat Asuka — when she had the longest [unbeaten] streak — she really cemented my legacy, and she put me on the map that night. Like, Asuka had nothing to prove. I had everything to prove. And knowing what it takes to always stay on top and be on top, and see her consistently be on top, that’s why like, ‘damn, I respect you.’ I know what that takes and no matter what, Asuka is still there, she’s always shoulder to shoulder with me. So I don’t think I play well with others, but if I’m gonna be a tag team partner, I might as well be with a woman that I respect. Who I know is gonna, you know, be a warrior.”
  • AJ Styles told TalkSport about wanting to face Edge or Triple H at WrestleMania: “Well, if it can’t be Drew McIntyre [for the WWE title], give me Edge. If it can’t be Edge, give me Triple H. There’s a number of guys that are willing to step up and it can be any one of those. I’m telling you, I want Edge. I got some payback to get from the Royal Rumble. I got some payback to get from that spear. So it’s time to get some payback! I feel like I’ve put [Triple H] in a situation like I did The Undertaker. ‘Hey, hey, hey’ [laughs]. Will he accept? I don’t know. But these are guys that I’ve always thought, wow, they’re great and even speaking to them, you realise their mindset and the way they approach things are totally different to a lot of other performers. They just, there’s something about them. There’s a reason why he’s still doing what he’s doing. NXT is a brand because of Triple H. There’s no question of that. So I would love to see how that would work in a match with him. Will it ever happen? I don’t know, but I’m trying guys!”
  • WWE announced that Drew McIntyre is now on Cameo. McIntyre’s Cameos are priced at $400 each.
  • Kevin Owens posted a tweet explaining why no one helped him against Roman Reigns and Jey Uso at TLC: “Consequences of my actions for many years. Also, the Riott Squad wasn’t at the arena.”
  • As this month’s classic content drop, the WWE Network uploaded ten WWF Superstars episodes from 1993 yesterday.
  • Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke appeared on this week’s episode of Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia on the WWE Network. William Regal will be the guest on Friday’s edition of the Swerve City podcast.
  • Sports Illustrated posted an article on the impact Bret Hart has had on today’s stars.
  • WWE’s first look at their WWE Icons docuseries is now available on YouTube.
  • WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Triple H vs. Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship from Royal Rumble 2005, Batista vs. Edge vs. The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship from Armageddon 2007, and Sheamus vs. Big Show in a lumberjack match from the December 24, 2012 episode of Raw.
