After losing the Universal Championship at SummerSlam, it took less than a month for Brock Lesnar to resurface in WWE. Lesnar didn’t just get involved in the main event of Sunday night’s pay-per-view — the finish of the show was entirely built around his appearance. THURSDAY NEWS UPDATE

Bryan and myself and Tom Lawlor did a show last night on the Jon Jones case. It really goes into depth on the whole ridiculous situation.

The California State Athletic Commission said it would not add any time to the 15 month Jones suspension, which ends on 10/28, but is ordering Jones to complete three months of community service work.

Dana White emphasized that Jon Jones would not be fighting on the 11/3 show in Madison Square Garden. They did not announce a main event for that card today. In fact, there were no announcements of anything today.

UFC held a press conference in New York today with Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov to build their 10/6 fight. There was almost nothing newsworthy. McGregor has a great delivery, of course, but said nothing of note, and Nurmagomedov spoke little and it seemed he didn’t even want to be there. The viewing audience was high, well over 500,000 viewers live. McGregor did a good job in pushing his new Whiskey line and noted that they are sponsoring the show, and that the Whiskey promotion will be on the Octagon canvas, along with Nurmagomedov’s blood. He pushed that Nurmagomedov was 26-0, only fought amateurs, won the title in an embarrassing match and had a glass jaw. With no live crowd, since only reporters were allowed, the atmosphere wasn’t there like similar events of the past. 

A few notes on the talked about meeting with Ed Nordholm and Scott D’Amore with Paul Levesque at WWE headquarters. It was a meeting that WWE requested. There was said to be no substantial news out of it at this point. It was not Impact pitching ideas as was reported in the current issue.

Glenn Robinson, the founder of the Blackzillians gym, who was a coach for a season of the Ultimate Fighter for his feud with Dan Lambert (who later became part of TNA), passed away yesterday. The feud was very legit as Robinson lured fighters away from Lambert’s ATT Gym. No more details are available but it has been the talk of the MMA world. Robinson put the gym and team together, which consisted of many of the biggest names in the sport at one point before it closed its doors, including Rashad Evans, Alistair Overeem, Eddie Alvarez, Rumble Johnson and others. He also founded Authentic Sports Management and the Jaco clothing brand.

  • Dana White will be speaking on 10/16 on the UFC’s media rights at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square at the Sports Media & Technology 2018 conference.

  • Dwayne Johnson and Under Armour have an announcement tomorrow on UA.com of an “All Day Hustle” product line with men and women’s apparel and accessories.
  • A story on Lex Luger and his attempts to make the Green Bay Packers before he started pro wrestling. (thanks to Mike Kuzmuk)
  • Jimmy Havoc vs. Sami Callihan in a spin the wheel match and Tom Lawlor vs. Shane Strickland have been added to the 10/4 MLW TV tapings at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, NY.
  • The new CWL promotion in Detroit which starts on weekly local TV on 9/29 seems to be having trouble selling tickets. Earlier this week they offered to anyone that buys four tickets a chance to get your picture taken in the ring at a show with a referee and a replica belt. Earlier they were giving away a free CWL T-shirt with the purchase of two tickets.
  • Tomorrow night’s MLW TV show will have PCO vs. Brody King and Hart Foundation vs. Col. Parker’s Stud Stable, plus Joey Ryan & Taya Valkyrie vs. MJF & Aria Blake.
  • Eve announced a show on 9/27 with Hana Kimura vs. Sammii Jayne, Rhea O’Reilly vs. Holidead, Jordynne Grace vs. Killer Kelly and Toni Storm vs. Meiko Satomura in a no time limit match. They also have two shows on 9/29. The afternoon show has Charlie Morgan vs. Sammii Jayne vs. Kasey vs. Rhea O’Reilly for the Eve title, Alpha Female (Jazzy Gabert) vs. Chihiro Hashimoto, Grace vs. Sierra Loxton, Kay Lee Ray vs. Laura DiMateo and more. The evening show, on FITE TV, has Morgan vs. Storm vs. Ray vs. Kelly for the International title and Hashimoto vs. Grace.

  • George Murdoch, who was Brodus Clay in WWE and Tyrus in Impact, has a role on the TV show “The Purge” that airs on 10/25 on the USA Network after Smackdown.
  • Another match added to the OTT Anniversary show on 10/13 in Dublin at the National Stadium is a five-way with Rocky Romero vs. Gino Gambino vs. LJ Cleary vs. Paddy M vs. a mystery fifth man.
  • Adam Page is auctioning off his gear and the phone he used to almost kill Joey Ryan to raise money for the North Carolina Relief Fund on Ebay.
  • The Young Bucks & Cody will be at the Legends of the Ring Convention on 10/13 in Monroe, NJ.
  • Announced for the Melbourne City Wrestling show on 10/5, the day before WWE’s Super Show-Down card, is Gino Gambino vs. Robbie Eagles for the MCW title, Slex vs. Adam Brooks for the Intercommonwealth title Dowie James vs. Lochy Hendricks and Kellyanne vs. Avery.
  • Amanda Serrano (0-0-1), a six-division boxing champion faces kickboxing champion Erendira Ordonez (2-1) for Combate Americas on 10/13 in Tucson at the Casino del Sol AVA Amphitheater. The show is headlined by former UFC fighter Erik Perez vs. John Castaneda. The entire show airs on DAZN and the top three bouts air live on Univision at midnight Eastern time and Univision Deportes Network. 
  • Tony Garea turned 72 today. Arn Anderson turned 60.
