In a match that seemed impossible not all that long ago and was still pretty shocking when the announcement was made, Chris Jericho will face Kenny Omega for New Japan Pro Wrestling at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th. That was confirmed in a video at NJPW’s Power Struggle event last weekend after Omega had defeated Trent Barreta to retain the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.

  • After losing the WWE Championship at yesterday’s SmackDown tapings, Jinder Mahal took to Instagram to deny rumors about why he dropped the title: “To @ajstylesp1, you were the better man for one night. Six months I held the #WWEChamoionship, defended it countless times, all over the world. I will one day raise the title again. To my haters and wrestling ‘insiders’, this was NOT an experiment, I am NOT injured, I have NOT violated the wellness policy. So keep throwing shade my way , it only motivates me.”
  • AJ Styles thanked the fans in the UK for how they treated him last night and throughout his career: “Judging by the reaction in Manchester last night after winning the WWE championship you’d think I was from the UK. Truth is, I’ve spent  a lot of time in this part of the world and they have always treated me as one of their own.  Thank you”
  • WWE’s video clip of Styles winning the championship has over two million views on YouTube as of now, which is a strong number.
  • ESPN has full video of their Ric Flair 30 for 30 available to watch online for those with cable subscriptions.
  • Rory Karpf, the director of the documentary, wrote that The Undertaker brewed coffee and had snacks for their crew and was one of the nicest people he’s ever interviewed.
  • ESPN’s 30 for 30 podcast series has an episode about the Flair documentary that includes an additional conversation with Flair and Karpf.
  • St. Louis today ran an article on Flair and other characters from Wrestling at the Chase.
  • Chris Jericho discussed his match against Kenny Omega at the beginning of today’s episode of his podcast. Jericho said he would tell the whole story later but noted that he’s been working on the match for a couple of months, that Omega is the best performer in pro wrestling today, and it’s a best in the world vs. best in the world type of situation with him coming off the best run of his career. Jericho said they’re working on other ways for people to see the match in addition to New Japan World. Later in the episode, Austin Aries made an appearance to discuss his release from WWE.
  • John Cena tweeted a message about being added to SmackDown’s Survivor Series team: “I am ready to answer the call where ever and whenever I’m needed. Where? #SDLive When? #SurvivorSeries”
  • Rusev also posted an in-character tweet about Cena being added to the team: “Congrats to my friend John Cena who qualified for the survivor series fair and square…… go get them TIGER”
  • PWInsider reported that Rockstar Spud will be signing with WWE and starting with the company once all of his visa paperwork has been completed. Spud was formerly with Impact Wrestling.
  • The Chicago Tribune ran a story on Maria Kanellis-Bennett and Mike Bennett looking for houses in Chicago.
